Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsStarbucks CEO is about to screw Democrats and the rest of the country. I'm sorry folks
but what we do not need is another kind of third party taking away votes. There are too many who just want any other alternative to Trump but still believe all the FOXy and other RW propaganda about Democrats. They bought it hook line and since in 2016 and they will do it again.

(32,088 posts)It does a lot of things that the left likes, but it's still a large. ubiquitous corporation that puts out overpriced, not-that-great products. I don't think that running a company like that is enough to make you an attractive presidential candidate.

Your own warning of certain disaster seems to indicate he will get more votes from the right than the left.

(24,122 posts)for months now... even though, if Bernie ran as an Independent - and he surely would win - I think that would spell utter DISASTER for the chances of what's sposed to be the "Big Tent" party in 2020. So, why is this any different?

He is the one who started to cast aspersions at the Clinton Foundation (which did a lot of good work) to make it look like it was uncouth.
He was the one who coined the euphemism "corporate democrats." Fox news and RW then just ran with it.
I shall not forget.

I've been to Starbucks twice in my life. Both times were when somebody else paid. The first time I got a coffee that was too strong; the second time I got an iced green tea. I got a stomachache both times, which surprised me because I have a cast iron digestive system.
Once I won a Starbucks $10 card in a company drawing. I gave it to a coworker.
So, who is Howard Schultz and why should we care?

(2,787 posts)he has money behind him which brings influence. He may be socially liberal, but he probably is not all that much of an economic liberal cause if he was he wouldn't be the CEO of Starbucks which has been pretty anti-union which would give Sherrod Brown and Bernie Sanders an opening to go after this guy. Which could drive a wedge between Pro-business and Pro-Labor Democrats.

(24,122 posts)get his turn to run a second time for president in the 2020 Democratic primary, should he decide to throw his hat into the ring. Those saying he should "run in his own party" as an Independent, if he does take a second shot, are only guaranteeing 4 more years of the Dotard dick-tatorship.

(11,287 posts)Split the republican ticket for a change. They could choose between a real dummy and a Pretty smart guy. We win... Bloomberg may do it just to rid us of this idiot we have now. Hope so. He doesn't like Trump.

(52,317 posts)We have:
- Mandate (because we picked up seats in the house in the midterms)
- no foreign policy success (because nothing even close)
- no incumbent charisma (because only his sheeple can even stand him)
and
- scandal (because, holy shit, lol)
We need two more keys to win per Lichtman's model.
We could get any of:
- challenger charisma
- recession
- foreign policy disaster
- meaningful third party challenge
- meaningful republicans nomination battle
- social unrest
- policy change
Donnie's got incumbency locked up unless he doesn't run for some reason, and long term economy seems to be his even if we have a recession.
Policy change is an interesting one. Does his tax cut qualify? Personally, I don't think so, but Lichtman seems to as he doesn't list it as still in play.
