Kamala Harris for President, Cory Booker for Vice-President.
What say you DU?

(7,447 posts)why would that affect his ability to be VP? It's a mostly meaningless position anyways, but to have two POC as President and VP would be unprecedented and he has plenty of other good policies.

(56,828 posts)and in no way binding or something that would need to be reconciled with a similar bill passed in the House?
However, a yes vote and passage in the Senate would have made it more likely that the repeal of the ACA would have been passed from what I understood at the time.

(24,248 posts)Harris can be "promoted" because CA will send a Democratic Senator in her place, guaranteed.
Her VP pick should be a Governor or former Gov.
Terry McCauliffe for example, or someone like that.
SidDithers
(44,228 posts)but I was thinking of Julian, former HUD Secretary under Obama.

(102,342 posts)alone. While someone like a Sherrod Brown (similar to Biden) would appeal to those voters we lost in 2016 like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio, as well as much of the upper (and central) Midwest.
I like Corey, but his strengths are already embodied in Kamala, IMO.

hlthe2b
(102,342 posts)that would let him bring on states that Kamala won't be able to herself. The VP should bring something to the table. Beto brings enthusiasm and youth, but he's certainly not going to win us Texas, so exactly which states does he make competitive?
And, on re-reading your post, I realize you were pushing for Beto as top of the ticket. Heavens no. He's not ready for that. He's never even won statewide office.

Perhaps you need to take a break if others' differing opinions are that difficult for you to read. If your reaction causes you to attack others for their opinions, rather than countering them with your own, it won't end up well.

(9,350 posts)Although I think Kamala Harris could win the 2020 Presidential election without Biden and Joe Biden could likely win the election without Harris, I think a Biden/Harris ticket is a winning ticket. I think a number of people would vote for the ticket because there would be a chance for Harris to have a shot at the Presidency. Others would vote for it because Biden is at the top and Harris seems to be competent enough to take over if anything should happen to Biden.
Sugarcoated
(7,728 posts)Biden/Harris, Biden/Beto, Harris/Beto or Beto/Harris. All winners, IMO
ADX
(1,622 posts)...but together, they'd be unstoppable. Biden's got decades of experience playing the political game and Harris is a "sharp as a tack" under-study...

You get one shot to win once you're the nominee. Then the party moves on. See: Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry.

(49,400 posts)upsde down. We need an immediate remedy before going foward. HRC has the connections and leadership to get it going, then hand it off to Kamala, Beto, or J. Castro in 2024.

(9,350 posts)I guess this falls under re-fighting the last election, but I wish Hillary Clinton had picked Kamala Harris as her running mate. I know Harris was running for Senate in 2016 and may not have wanted to be the VP. However, maybe having Harris on the ticket would have put Clinton over the top in a few key states like North Carolina and Michigan. Maybe seeing Harris as the heir apparent would have gotten some reluctant black and Hispanic voters to come to the polls in order to see the rise of Harris in 8 years.

I guess he have helped in Ohio and other rust belt states. I guess he can do the same this time.

(1,332 posts)No.
Booker let himself in for it with his "I am Spartacus" moment.
And....I hate to say this, but 2 people who self identify as "black"? Although she is part Indian.
No way will white people go for that.
And no to two women. Men, white and black and brown won't go for that.
She needs a white man to run with .
Sorry, just the way I see it.
I had thought Sherrod Brown, who I still think would be good, but my husband pointed out that the governor of Ohio is a republican and would appoint a republican to replace him if he won.
AND NO MORE MILLIONAIRE BUSINESSMEN!!!!! Been there done that.
Personally I like the idea of a combination ticket of a progressive and a moderate. Would you call Beto a moderate?
apnu
(8,758 posts)I think he's a solid liberal, possibly a Progressive, but have little info on him beyond his campaign ads, which is a distorted image.

strategically neither one of them gets us something we can't get. I think we'll take CA and NJ.
I say Sherrod Brown gets us OH... which could be a big deal.
And I think Beto should be in the picture somewhere. Winning TX would be a big get.

(8,758 posts)It will be a near thing, depending on who the Democratic Nominee is, but we won't win Texas. The Bubba Network is still too strong. Texas needs another generation before it flips.

(89 posts)During the LA strike, he was pretty much the only big democratic leader to not publicly state his support for the striking teachers and more importantly, public schools. He was too busy attending a charter conference, I guess the charter money was too much of a draw.
