Republican Jeff Flake says he wont challenge Trump in 2020
January 29, 2019
WASHINGTON (AP) Former Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake says he hopes a Republican will challenge President Donald Trumps re-election bid, but it wont be him.
Flake, who did not seek re-election in 2018, frequently tangled with Trump and often said he hoped a Republican would challenge Trump in 2020. Flake told CBS This Morning on Tuesday that somebody wont be me. I will not be a candidate.
Flake retired this month and is now a CBS News contributor. He says that its a difficult path for any Republican to challenge Trump in a primary but that he still hopes someone will do so.
Flake was a U.S. senator from Arizona from 2013 to 2019. Previously, he represented Arizonas 6th Congressional District in the House.

OP
I hope that toothless tiger just fades into ignoble obscurity. Too bad that CBS saw fit to hire him.

(6,377 posts)1. I'll be surprised if he faces a primary.

(20,872 posts)8. If John Kasich doesn't try at it then I don't think anyone will.
But he's the obvious choice to go after the clown show.

He's utterly spineless & worthless, nothing but a concern troll full of hot air, meaningless platitudes, and nothing else. In many ways, he's even worse than a trump apologist. He talked tough yet caved every time it actually counted. Who needs that?

(3,826 posts)9. Ryan was scared shitless to say anything against trump while in office. He showed no change even...
when he announced that he was running away...

(5,300 posts)10. Paul Ryan is going to hide in the shadows
until (he hopes) the stank of what he's helped happen has worn away.
After a Democratic president has come in and cleaned up the mess he abetted, he'll come out of his oubliette to run against "the tax and spend Democrats."
