What if Melania is Trumpie's "handler",,
She's a classic example of a honeypot scheme. She was raised in an iron curtain country and did not leave until the 90's.. She would have made a perfect undercover agent ..
The story about the meeting got me to thinking. She, no doubt, understands Russian, so she was the translator..
Maybe she was sent to the uS to "work" him..

To get her synthetic silicone boob in the door.
Hood wink "The Donald" into thinking it is a love induced relationship,... but the intent of the Russians was to play upon the American capitalists weakness of hording money, gluttony and greed,... and play the long game exploiting these weaknesses.
Then using these same weaknesses to destabilize, over throw, then up root American Democracy,... all without firing a shot of bullets and/or missiles commonly found in the antiquated models of fighting ground/land wars.
Not only did Putin win the skirmishes, then the battles,.. Putin has damn near won the Second Cold War, and not one bullet left his guns.
Democracy is a very very fragile thing.

Not to feed into conspiracy theories, but this is a known unknown. If she were an agent, fluency in Russian might be kept under wraps. A uni classmate of mine was fluent in Egyptian Arabic and no one had a clue until he retired from his government analyst position a few years ago.
That being said, I'm not convinced this theory is all that solid.

(3,523 posts)Of course she wouldn't want it known that she speaks fluent Russian. That's part of her cover.
The fact that you can't find it on Google is proof that she really is an undercover agent. Why else wouldn't it show up?

Yes shes an obvious mastermind!
These kind of threads are a hoot!

His history of womanizing shows that a honeypot would be a good method to employ to get control over him.
If this were a movie, it'd be too predictable and no one would watch it. Instead, we're living it.

(14,167 posts)Czechoslovakias former spy agency targeted Donald Trump in the 1980s as part of a mission to gain information about the US government, archive files have revealed.
The country's intelligence service, Státní bezpečnost (StB), began their operation to spy on Mr Trump in 1977, when he married his first wife, Ivana Zelníčková.
The operation was based in Miss Zelníčková's hometown Zlín in south-west Czechoslovakia and relied on tips from her father Milo Zelníček, according to files seen by The Guardian newspaper.

(32,748 posts)I say that because Maria Butina is an example of a honey pot spy operator. Melania's behavior all these years has been very different from Butina's. Melania is more like a woman who is predisposed towards falling in love with a very rich man while ignoring how disgusting he really is.
I'm thinking that after her relationship with Trump became big news, Melania (or her parents) may have been visited by the KGB agents in Slovenia. Perhaps threats were been made against her family members if she didn't report on Trump's activities. But reporting on him vs. controlling him are two very different things. Putin the master KGB spy handler is the only controller for Trump.

The language itself is irrelevant.

(54,436 posts)They are both Slavic, of course, but just like Swedish and Dutch are Germanic languages, they are not mutually intelligible either. Also, Yugoslavia was no friend of the Soviet Union, and the Slovenians in particular felt more affinity with Austria than they did with their pre-independence Serbian masters in Beograd. Plus, since Tito split from the Warsaw Pact in 1948, most Yugoslav schools no longer taught Russian as a mandatory language in their schools. In Slovenia and northern Croatia, the first foreign language was German or Italian, depending on what was closest. Anyway, before World War I, coastal Croatia was part of Italy, and most of the rest of the rest of the future Yugoslavia was part of the Hapsburg (Austro-Hungarian) Empire. It sure saved my sorry ass when I first visited there in the 1970s, because although my Slovenian was non-existent, I could get along fine in German and Italian. Russian would have been fine for me, too, but they didn't understand it.
Bit of Yugoslav tivia: though Tito ruled from Beograd and fought with the Partisans against the Ustashe during World War II, he was actually half Croatian, half Slovene.
Melania would have had to undergo some thorough, years-long training for this gig if she was a KGB/FSB plant, and her CV doesn't have, as far as I know, long enough a gap to have allowed for it.

(2,597 posts)Those with above average intelligence, aptitude and physical superiority - including beauty and handsomeness - would have been key factors in those chosen to become their intelligence agents. And they would have been recruited and turned before they hit their teens. Both Ivana before her (also a model), and now Melania, would have fit the bill quite nicely. Eastern Europe during the Soviet era was no walk in the garden of earthly delights. Recruiting such folks would have been like shooting fish in a barrel and the parents of such chosen ones would have been all in for it, because they and their families would have benefited from the largesse of the Soviet government.

(54,436 posts)She was older and Czech, and so very much a citizen of the Soviet Empire. In her day, they DID all study Russian in school, and answered to their colonial masters. Czech, being a Western Slavic language, is not mutually intelligible with Russian either, but ALL Czech kids were forced to learn it until 1990.

(23,742 posts)Not only Melania, but also Ivana who was a Czechoslovakian who conveniently married an Austrian in 1972 and through him obtained an Austrian passbook in 1972. They moved to Canada and she divorced him in 1973. All this time she had a Czech boyfriend since 1967. She lived with in Montreal until she met Trump in 1976 and married him in 1977, becoming a naturalized US citizen in 1988.

(15,552 posts)one thing I do know is that she is NOT as benign an individual as she wants people to believe. I think she puts on a very good act of being the submissive little woman who loved a man who doesn't have the ability to love back and she just doesn't know what to do about it. I think she knows exactly what she's doing.

(2,597 posts)He has been married to (with the exception of Maples) women of Eastern European (former Soviet Balkan) countries. And during at least the mid to late '80s, he's been trying to work deals in Russia. There is no good reason why a woman who looks like Melania and is twenty+ years younger than he is would legitimately stay with this freak unless she was planted there for some reason other than *love*. She's the more useful part of Putin's scheme. Somebody that knows the language has got to be able to translate his gibberish for Putin on the Red Phone.
