Bernie Sanders in 2020? Progressives are split

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/28/opinions/bernie-sanders-may-not-be-a-2020-presidential-favorite-obeidallah/index.html

On Saturday, Twitter was abuzz with the news that Bernie Sanders, the independent Vermont senator, might be "imminently," as Yahoo News reported, jumping into the 2020 race for president.

But it was readily apparent from the trending hashtag #NeverBernie that Sanders' entrance into the 2020 race would be far different and likely even more challenging than 2016.

When Sanders announced in May 2015 his run for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, he was only viewed unfavorably by 12% of those polled by Gallup.

His unfavorable rating, however, in that same poll in late 2018 is closer to 40%. And more than that -- and this truly surprised me -- was the level of opposition and even anger directed at Sanders by some of my fellow progressives on Twitter on Saturday.

But maybe I'm wrong: What issue or cause does Bernie support that isn't also embraced by another candidate who's younger and already a Democrat?

Bernie's entire justification for sticking around would hinge on him winning both Iowa and New Hampshire, and that's not going to happen (not with Warren and possibly Brown/Biden/Beto joining the race). Even if he did, he would be eliminated on Super Tuesday just as he was in 2016 (except it would be even more pronounced in 2020 thanks to California moving up).

have brought his unfavorable up to 40 percent. He's 64% favorable with people of color. and 78% favorable among democrats. Isn't Democrats the number that matters when considering your primary chances? Wouldn't you expect the percentage of voters who love Trump to still, mostly hate anybody liberal? Those negatives are nearly baked into our political system.

Hahahah....wow, on Saturday dude read some twitters and was surprised at his anecdotal findings.

do not attack the Democratic Party, nor do they have the left over animosity of 2016. Has he thrown his hat in yet? When does he have to become a member of the Democratic Party if he is running in the Democratic primary?

People underestimated him in 2016. They may be underestimating him for the 2020 campaign.
