'Empire' star Jussie Smollett: Police locate 'persons of interest' on surveillance camera

Chicago Police say they've established "potential persons of interest" in the attack of "Empire" star Jussie Smollett early Tuesday morning in what Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi says they are investigating as a "possible hate crime."

Officers expanded the search area for the attackers Tuesday evening after unsuccessfully combing through "hundreds of hours of video." Guglielmi said no footage of the alleged assailants or their vehicle had been found – until now.

"Detectives have located a surveillance camera that shows potential persons of interest wanted for questioning in reference to the assault & battery of an Empire actor," Guglielmi tweeted Wednesday. "A community alert (with) photos is being constructed and will be disseminated shortly."

Sgt. Cindy Guerra confirmed to USA TODAY that Smollett said in a follow-up interview that his alleged attackers yelled, "This is MAGA country."

I should know better than to read responses to anything that shows that monster's minions for what they are but this one particularly got to me. They just validated his claims while denying they could be true.

… sometimes the cameras only show attackers disguised. Unless there is something distinctive, it can be disappointing... however, people in the area MUST talk. If they've heard any talk about the actor or attack... and the attackers have probably committed similar crimes. I hope the people in that area listen and give the police any tips... they can get these attackers.

have powerful good vibes to send. I sent mine today as well. I am so totally sick and tired of this kind of behavior. I have never understood it. I hope they get caught, I hope they feel bad about what they did and I hope there is no mercy for them. We progressed beyond some of this and were slowly working up to being better (it takes so long) then Trump. Of all the things I absolutely abhor about Trump this is the worst. Why hate each other?
