GOP poised to rebuke Trump

"Frustrated Republicans say it's time for the Senate to reclaim more power over foreign policy and are planning to move a measure Thursday that would be a stunning rebuke to a president of their own party.

GOP lawmakers are deeply concerned over President Trump's reluctance to listen to his senior military and intelligence advisers, fearing it could erode national security. They say the Senate has lost too much of its constitutional power over shaping the nation's foreign policy and argue that it's time to begin clawing some of it back.

"Power over foreign policy has shifted to the executive branch over the last 30 years. Many of us in the Senate want to start taking it back," said a Republican senator closely allied with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

They plan to send Trump a stern admonishment by voting Thursday afternoon on an amendment sponsored by McConnell warning "the precipitous withdrawal" of U.S. forces from Syria and Afghanistan "could put at risk hard-won gains and United States national security."

is not a law.

if McConnell really wanted to stand up to Trump he would push his caucus to vote for a law that requires the president to submit a plan and a sound reason for withdrawing from Syria, not just what he was told by Putin and RT. And, it should have consequences if Lil Donny fails to follow through.

And I doubt that many others will be either.

Is a "stern admonishment" more severe than double secret probation, or less? I'm sure Individual-1 will quake in terror if this happens. Which it probably won't.

The balance has tipped too far to the executive. Congress has ceded too much and it is fully capable of taking back the power it ceded.

going to be 'party first' and 'donors first' with them, instead of 'country first'. The republicans also failed miserably in protecting the country by not vetting rump first either, before allowing him to run under their party banner. So they failed all of us miserably in protecting the country before hand, and clearly failed it on a day to day basis prior to doing any kind of 'admonishment'. Pathetic.

We already know that people aren't flocking to this administration to work, and those that work for him (Miller, Sarah S., etc.) are pretty well scorched earth material now and never ever will work anywhere else, no one will ever hire them, they are way too toxic). I wonder if Sarah S. and Miller know this? They can't be blind.

Rump has a temper that is so predictable and pathetic. I'm currently more interested in watching others piss rump off and then watching the childish fireworks (GO Nancy P!). It's kind of funny to watch. In the meantime, I know that Nancy P. has got our back. I feel much better that now, there is a responsible tier of government doing its' job.

The fact of the matter is, is that rump has lost all kinds of respect (if any was truly there to begin with). Any arguments that he used to make about draining the swamp is a big joke, being that the swamp has gotten several times bigger with him and his administration in charge, and the evidence is out there in plain sight. Can't bury or hide it, can't lie your way out of it, even the lies are toothless and worthless too.

If the Russians hacked our elections (and it sure seems like it, by the overwhelming evidence), I can clearly see why they picked rump. An idiot who is so predictable, who is so gullible, who is so vain and ego-driven, who is a pathological liar, it reeks to high heaven. All of us have, unfortunately dealt w/ such personalities before in our lives and the best way to deal w/ these idiots is to ignore them, deal them out of your lives, don't give them a platform, don't even waste your time on them, for it is all about them, and no one else.

After more than two years of supine obeisance to their Emperor Trump, NOW Senate Republicans want people to believe that they're really, really going to start standing up to him? No, really, they're super serial! Just give them a couple of years to get back on their feet, do a little working out, start eating healthy and cut out the empty calories of political pandering, and a quick visit from their girlfriend (she lives in Canada, you don't know her). Poised, I tell ya!

Why would any of our Allies (if we can call them that) choose to believe Mitch McConnell and the Senate over Cheato? They're peas in a pod and none of them have any credibility. Until real leadership returns to the US government this is all a waste of everybody's time. The NATO Allies are waiting & praying for 2020 just like we are.

it doesn't seem possible that there are any republicans in congress who care about national security more than their own power, wealth, and ability to win the next election no matter how corruptly. may be they're hearing from their constituents and realizing that trump is going to lose in 2020 (if he's still around), and that if they don't at least pretend to give a rat's ass about national security, so will they.

i'm speculating. i don't know. they're all fucking traitors in my book.

Maybe as others said the intelligence community is doing some leaning. They also might be realizing Trump will have a hard time getting re elected. The senate might get more hostile to trumps agenda in 2020 to try to hold the senate. They also might be trying to hamstring a New Democratic administration.

I don't trust these bastards.
