General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAnyone planning to watch the repuke convention?
For myself, I can't bear to hear their lying, poison rhetoric, suffer through the lusty cheers, or look into the faces of a million morons. I think I'll let Martin-Chris-Ed-Rachel-Al-Lawrence do the dirty work, then listen to them as they discuss the "high points" of each day of the convention.
My stomach may not even be strong enough for that. I'm already so enraged/outraged I can hardly stand it.
Other thoughts?

(297,323 posts)I was new to politics in 2000 and I started to watch the repu convention to learn about things and I don't remember exactly what it was but I was repulsed and turned it off. Probably stupid's face grinning like an idiot.
I cancelled all narrative driven "news" in 2002.

(3,069 posts)There are too many people who really don't like Romney, even in the GOP camp. Whether it is the Paulites or some other sect raising hell, it could be very interesting. The other thing is that Romney's campaign is kind of like watching a train wreck.... You want to look away, but you just can't.

(1,124 posts)for # of people who watch ... Priebus has mentioned that several times. They seem to think that if there are big numbers watching convention it means Romney will win. Personally I think it will be more a case of Know Thy Enemy.
I don't know if I can bear to watch these lying POSs talk about their platform or that insipid smile that Mitt will wear each time people clap and cheer.
I too feel enraged. I am actually to the point of feeling hatred ... and I don't think that is anyway to feel.

(22,897 posts)It's hard not to feel hatred-- "those people" are bound and determined to destroy America. It's as if a huge number of people came over here from some foreign locale and started attacking our country. (Under the guise of "Americans." It's unbelievable.
It still feels like a horrendous nightmare.

(41,987 posts)That baby hurricane, Isaac, blows in right about the time Ryan takes the stage, cuts the power on and off all through his speech, and when Romney gets up there the place goes dark. A girl can dream.
But of course I'll watch, with a chunk of wood between my teeth and a few shots of something under my belt, but I'll watch.

I'd never make it as a liberal talk show host-- they have to watch/listen the repukes all the time to keep up on the latest outrage. My hat's off to them-- I couldn't do that in a million years!!!!!!!!!

(22,897 posts)I wonder what the prevailing mood will be-- do they know they have a flop for a candidate? Will it be hard for them to stir up enthusiasm, even if it's fake? Or, like the automatons they are, do they just reflexively scream, yell, and wave their signs?
They make me sick.

(16,254 posts)It will be a personal challenge to see if I can stand it, but I've watched both conventions. The pug convention is good for laughs. Didn't they OK guns? If so, there may be an interesting exchange of ideas...not that I'm advocating the use of guns, but they made the laws and have no one to blame but themselves. I'm sure they'll understand if someone uses their Constitutional Rights. Sheesh!
