My republican acquaintance today said the voters hate Claire so much they'll vote for Akin anyway.

She agreed that what Akin said was really awful and offensive to women but maybe I just don't understand how deeply they despise Claire McCaskill. I said "Enough to vote for an idiot who obviously has no respect for women?" She said yes.

I then reminded her that the independent vote is what matters. Did she honestly believe independents would vote for Akin? She said "Well, republicans are NOT going to vote for Claire." So I asked her again, what about the independents.

She walked away, shaking her head.

In other news, my republican family members have asked for a truce on Facebook. "Please no political posts between now and the election". Not a one of them has said a word about the Akin nonsense. For months now, they have flooded my page with every nasty cartoon they could find about President Obama, called him a socialist, criticized the ACA, gone into great detail about how it's going to bankrupt the country, belittled the Democrats. No shame. But NOW they want a truce!

Not on your life. Let the games begin!

getting too obvious to ignore. Remember, folks, this is the period before the Austrian corporal with the Chaplin moustache came to power. The ugliness is increasing every day.

There is a sizable portion of the American populace that would happily march most of the people who post here to the extermination camps and not think twice about doing so. They would sleep as soundly as kittens after doing it.

Very strange and awful times could lie ahead. If the POTUS is re-elected, I foresee the reichwingers going completely off the deep end.

will vote Republican even if they are told to their face that they would be slaughtered the day after the election.

You can't reason with them. A Democratic candidate could tell them that they would keep them alive, on Medicare and Social Security or give them gainful employment. That's slavery. A Republican comes along and tells them that they will be slaughtered at a glue factory, while their belongings will be taken by the wealthy. That's greeted with joy and seen as freedom.

You can't reason with people that would give their lives to be "free" and dead, when "freedom" means that they have to actually live among people that don't share their ideology, or are, :shudder:, different than they are.

You cannot reason with people that watch Fox News and take it as their meat and drink, and with people that believe that Rush Limbaugh tells them the "truth". If they witness their friends and neighbors going to the glue factory, and their own possessions taken away, they will convince themselves that somehow, they are different.

Fun times, let me tell you.

It's been decided by the "brilliant" analysts working for Fox 4 (remember, they are working for us!) that with the conventions, there will be absolutely no campaigning by the Dems. (I believe the word "moratorium" was actually used on the air, along with an explanation of said word.) The next few weeks of "no campaigning" by the Dems would allow for enough time to have this all die down and Akin will come out that much stronger.

I guess they've already forgotten that Claire will not be attending the convention. She decided over a month ago that she would stay at home and campaign during that time, both on her behalf and on the behalf of her fellow Dems in the area.

I forgot how dumb they are on Fox 4!

Sorry, but this is the state that voted for a dead man over Ashcroft. Sure, the die hard yahoos will vote for Akin, but independents are running away in droves. Not to mention that Akin's comments energized the Democrats and the left to come out and vote for Claire in a way that nothing McCaskill could have achieved.

By next week, if not sooner, Claire will take the lead in the race for good. The only question left now is whether Akin's comments will cost Romney Missouri.
