Other than Gabbard. I don't consider Yang and Williamson to be realistic at this point.
Harris, Gillebrand, Warren, Castro, Buttigieg, and Booker all seem very smart and competent Democrats.
The only time I've ever supported a Democrat in the primaries was my very first primary in 1988 when I liked Mike Dukakis from neighboring Massachusetts. Look what happened to him?
Since then, I've realized that whoever the Democratic nominee is going to be is a helluva lot better than whoever the Republicans are going to nominate. So, why waste time arguing and complaining about who is more pure and who is less pure.
None of them are even close to as bad as Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

(115,910 posts)except that Gillebrand is also on my hell-no list, and so is Bernie if he decides to run -and even though I supported him in the 2016 primaries. More are certainly going to announce their candidacy, most of whom will be good, credible people. Some of them won't actually expect to be nominated but will be angling for the #2 spot or a cabinet position and this will be their way of getting some good publicity. We'll see how it shakes out. I'm not getting on any bandwagons yet.

(102,442 posts)positions--many which were once very very conservative positions-- and her time lobbying for big tobacco, I am not convinced she is trustworthy and sincere in her CURRENT positions. Sure one can change positions and evolve over time, but when it is a 180 degree flip, it leaves me concerned that these "changes" are merely self-serving. Not to mention the fact she apparently was not at all truthful when she pledged to finish her term when she ran for reelection to the Senate.
So, no, it is not only Franken, but her role in that seems consistent with a pattern.
I'm content to let her finish her term in the Senate and then we can all reevaluate. Perhaps then, she would be more convincing that she should/deserves to run for higher office.

(6,143 posts)They all called for Franken to resign the same morning as Gillibrand. It seems like a double standard to give them a pass for it.

(56,829 posts)15 other Republicans thought they could be Trump in the GOP primaries and both Clinton and Sanders thought they would beat him easily in the general.
That didn't turn out as expected for anybody.

(171,102 posts)fray? I like him very much; he could give everyone a run for their money. And Amy Klobuchar?
It's going to be interesting.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)I have 2 concerns about Brown:
1) The governor of Ohio is a Republican and would appoint a Republican to replace Brown if he was elected President or VP (not a concern in NJ, MN or PA, and maybe not in Mass because Dems have such a large majority there and changed the law when John Kerry was running)
2) Even though Brown has reconciled with his first wife, there were claims of domestic violence surrounding their divorce. Republicans would kill him over that.
I like Klobuchar quite a bit as well and don't see any concerns about her. I've mentioned this a few times on here, but my mom is not very political, but she told me out of the blue a few months back that she saw Klobuchar on some talk show and she really liked her a lot - so, she seems to pass the test for the non political types on a very anecdotal basis.

So far, so good...

(3,148 posts)Buttigieg at least has some good ideas like getting rid of the Electoral College.
Gabbard's baggage and the mess she has made out of her campaign for president made her unacceptable.
The rest of the announced and soon to announce are pretty good. I'm happy with so many qualified candidates.

(3,148 posts)I'm tired of appeasing gun owners and getting less the the bare minimum movement on gun violence. So I won't vote for a gun owner in a primary, but general election. I'd vote for him if he made it.
Also, as mayor he hasn't handle issues between African American and law enforcement well. So I think he might be week on BLM policy issues.

(16,862 posts)I don't have any problems with most of those who have announced so far. I like Warren a lot, and if Brown decides to run, I'll seriously consider him. I really wish Michael Bennet would run. That speech he gave was wonderful; his concerns that he mentioned about the direction this country is headed line up with my own thoughts better than any candidate I've heard from so far. I'd be behind him 100% in the primary, but any Democrat will have my vote in the GE.

(5,348 posts)because I think he'd slaughter trump in the general election.
As for his Medicare-for-all reluctance, I think that's a stance that can be reconsidered and revised once he gets into office.
