In Green Bay, WI, a guy was busted on probation violations, while he was in the cop car somehow he went from hands cuffed in back of him, to hands in front.
He was yelling at the cops at their station, that he was going to kill himself and any cop who comes near.
Due to the fact he was heavily dressed, (it was really cold that day,) cops couldn't tell if he had a gun or not.
So...
He was shot by the cops.
He died, and the local DA says the shooting was justified.
But the family of the perp is going to sue, and says the perp was such a good boy, quiet, never did anything wrong...

(29,566 posts)I have seen it done. I don't know how that would be possible in heavy winter clothing. Sounds like suicide by cop to me.

I don't consider ALL cops to be corrupt, and clearly this was a guy off his nut, threatening cops and himself.
Above, someone said it might be "suicide by cop."
That is possible, and it DOES happen.

(46,340 posts)The guy was using his fingers to "simulate" having a gun under his hoodie.
He was also strung out on meth.

(3,268 posts)In what police procedure manual are you taught to arrest a suspect, cuff him, and load him into your unit without searching him? They murdered that man and defending them is reprehensible.

(68,632 posts)a damn good reason, and if you can't handle the job then quit.. What we need to do absolve the taxpayers from paying for these monsters and let the police union pay. A 'I think he had a gun' could be a reason to kill anyone. It gives a cop a license to kill and must stop.

(16,334 posts)It's pretty clear tubby escalated the situation about as much as he could. Still, the police could have handled the situation differently, though that might have involved a bit more risk.
Full disclosure, I did what he did when I was a juvenile, after the handcuffs were applied and I was tossed in the back of the cop car I thought I would be clever and move my hands from the back to the front. When the cops noticed they didn't think it was cute, but they didn't shoot me either.
