(32,088 posts)That scowl could be from other things besides holding his father in contempt, and none of us know how he really feels about that asshole. He's a young kid who has been thrust onto the public stage, whether he wants it or not. I saw that same expression on Sasha Obama's face on a few occasions, as well. We all know damn well how much she loves her dad. Youngsters aren't always comfortable in that kind of situation, and I am willing to bet that this is what's going on here. I am sure he was wishing he could be elsewhere, doing kid things.

(6,831 posts)But, Barron Trump is Autistic. No parent in their right mind would want a child with Autism to engage in rough sports. And I'm sure that Melania would be dead-set against it, too. This is just common sense.

(12,448 posts)Not contradicting you, but is this common knowledge?
Haggis for Breakfast
(6,831 posts)Ok, here we go. At the time of the election, an expert team of mental health specialists, disability counselors and educators of special needs children, put together a TEN MINUTE tape of video of Barron Trump.
I worked with Deaf children and adults. Because I know ASL and I sign, I volunteered for several years at the WA State School for the Deaf. Often, the Deaf have more than one diagnosis, and autism can be one of those. I worked with some of these Deaf and autistic children every day for years.
After I watched the tape of young Trump, it was crystal clear to me that he has autism. Now, having said that, do I know where he is on the spectrum ? No. But, is he autistic ? Yes.
In my opinion, the family missed a golden opportunity here. If Melania really wanted to advocate for children, she should have started with her own son. She could have taken this issue to the country and disspelled all of the myth, misconception and misunderstanding around autism. She could have made this HER issue and by doing so, she would have won the hearts and minds of millions of families of autistic people. She could have raised the profile of this condition and brought to it enlightenment, understanding and empathy. Autistic children and adults deserve compassion and not stigma.

(772 posts)almost like they're embarrassed of his condition. Not a good or healthy attitude to put out there. What a shame for a lost opportunity.

(6,907 posts)That an autism spectrum diagnosis us no cause for stigma. I disagree with you that a video is sufficient for diagnosis if autism spectrum disorders Pentateuch ee should speculate about minors.

(6,831 posts)that I worked with Deaf and autistic children for years. And no, I'm not an MD. But my experience working with and helping comfort autistic children is vast. He bares ALL of the hallmarks I witnessed with dozens of these dear and vulnerable children.

Wanna pick on a Trump kid? Pick on the 3 he had with Ivana. They're adults that have put themselves in the spotlight. They're fair game.

(102,358 posts)I surely couldn't blame him, if he does.
What I will say is he's had a tremendous growth spurt. He's gonna be a tall young man. Good on him.

(14,167 posts).... he looks as his soul has been drained or stolen from him. Once he gets to be by himself hopefully he finds and connects with the compassionate and caring human that resides within.,.. if one indeed still exists after all the turmoil he has thus far endured.
What a fucked up family he was nurtured with during his crucial formative years.

(16,124 posts)football isn't safe.
Ugh, feels weird and wrong to say that, but there it is. I'm glad my boys gravitated to band instead of football.
Second, husband just pointed out that is expression is the same one I get when I'm screaming "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP" in my head while listening to a specific person in our life talk. Kid looks like he's trying to hold it together.
He also really looks like his mother in this picture. I feel sorry for him, being raised by people like that.

(3,398 posts)Ive heard that hes a spoiled brat, that he hates his dad, that hes on the spectrum, etc. We dont know the truth about him, and he didnt get to choose his family, and its hard enough just being a boy his age. I got angry at how Chelsea, Sasha and Malia were treated, and I wont do it to another kid.

(7,947 posts)He seems subdued and well-behaved. I want to pat his hand and tell him everything's okay. (I had three boys.)
Grandparents are really helpful often when they live close, as Mrs Trump's parents do.
he looks just like his mom. A fact he is probably very happy about.

(7,947 posts)Reminds me of the college buddy of Donnie Jr who said Trump came to Jr's dorm room to take him to a Yankee game, and Jr of course was not wearing a suit (seriously, who wears a suit to a baseball game?), and Trump knocked him down and told him to put a suit on.
It's understandable why Trump would always wear a suit, because he's portly and a suit makes him look better. But a kid wants to wear a t-shirt and board shorts.

(146,329 posts)There is no possible good in discussing the children of Presidents in any negative sort of way.
The boy's a kid. He hasn't done anything wrong. Just leave him alone. He already has enough problems to deal with.

(16,789 posts)It is not for us to say whether he has this or that as to why his expression in this photo appears as it does.
Unless he speaks up on his own accord as to how the presidency is affecting his daily life and what his interests are, Barron should be left alone.
