(38,016 posts)Any Texan knows the classic Queso recipe:
Velveeta + Rotel
If you want to be extra you add crumbled, fried sausage.
If you want to be fancy you do the whole homemade pico de gallo with monterey jack & cheddar.
But cream cheese? Cream of mushroom soup? WTF?

(8,445 posts)My son brought an atrocity to a family dinner. It was broccoli with Velveeta in a crock pot.
I tried it. I couldn't eat it. Almost all of it got tossed and he never tried to do anything like that again. I mean, I tried to be nice, but it's just too easy to make a nice cheese sauce.
Personally, I prefer well made nachos (with real cheese) If we are going to mix cheese and tortilla chips.

(20,214 posts)My mother's guac was class 3-2-1. 3 Avocados, 2 tomatoes, 1 small yellow onion.
My cousins was all that PLUS bacon and
MAYONNAISE!

(8,445 posts)I shouldn't be a food snob because people are allowed to like what they like, but REAL quacamole is just so darned good that I don't know why anyone would purposely ruin it.

(38,016 posts)This beats the guy from New York who mixed ground beef with barbecue sauce and had the nerve to put up a sign: "World's Best Chili" in Dallas, TX! He closed the place two months later.

Favorite foods: Tex-Mex, biscuits, chicken pot pie, grilled cheese sandwiches made with Kraft singles and white bread, BLTs, peanut butter and honey sandwiches, huevos rancheros, and deviled eggs.
Style of eating: Distinct, direct, non-negotiable & quick, according to the Food Timeline.
In her Plate of the Union: The Picky Presidential Palate slideshow at Delish, Jennifer Treuting recounts how the transition from the Clinton to Bush White House went for White House Chef Walter Scheib:
Chef Walter Scheib might have had the same job when George W. Bush and his family entered the White House, but it was a whole new ball game. It was the single strangest day of my life, Scheib recalls. I had to literally start from scratch. Scheib and his staff studied the new First Familys preferences and adjusted according to their Texas ranch tastes. How did the Bushes differ from the Clintons? Hummus was definitely out. Tex-Mex and beef tenderloin was in. Like his father (and president) before him, George W. didnt care much for green foods."
He'd been in Texas long enough to develop a palate for TexMex

(146,329 posts)someone melted a bunch of Velveeta and then dumped several cans of Dennisons Chili into it and then let it sit over the heat until it was burnt. The only place for that is the garbage can.
Yum!
