It feels like the GOP is self destructing in a rather spectacular way ... but ...

I think we will still be shocked at how many US citizens still want the GOP to run the country even after watching the Republican party wrap their incompetent, insane dirty laundry around their heads and strut about on the catwalk.

A large proportion of our population either don't bother or don't have the capability to observe and think about the issues.
They simply listen to the buzz around them and vote the way that buzz tells them too.
Robo-voting.
And the GOP is still damned effective at buzzing (or hissing) into people's ears.
That's what all the money is for.

It's not exactly insanity that leads people to vote for Republicans.
It's apathetic ignorance.

At least that's my view.

( Addendum: Of course unadulterated insanity IS the overriding factor in some cases. )

about on the catwalk'

The grammarian in me wanted to take you to task for the possibly mixed metaphor(s), but I couldn't get the image out of my head.

Hope some PhotoShop genius is reading and paying attention. I don't have the faintest idea how to PhotoShop but I know a great image when I read it

To face a gauntlet of Voter ID, Jim Crow-style legislation to keep them from having a say, it really may be too close to call.

Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states are really going to make it tough for the too young, too old, and newly made citizens to be part of this election cycle.

Obama is winning and if the election were held today would win. Maybe not by a sizable margin, but by a margin worthy of deeming him the victor.

And you help them think that, then when they stay home from the polls (as it is a pesky and difficult thing to do,) then what?

Truman/Dewey election comes to mind.

even after you point out to them all the countries with one party rule and how well they honor human rights

Nazi Germany
Soviet Russia
North Korea today
China today
Cuba today
Saddam's Iraq
Ghaddfi's Libya
Muhbarek's Egypt
Assad's Syria today
Afghanistan under the Taliban

And so many South American and African dictatorships too numerous to name.
