Fairfax has strongly denied the allegations now being made by two women and says he has insisted he has no plans to resign.
Yet, if Fairfax does not step down by Monday, Hope has pledged to file articles of impeachment.
During a press conference on Friday, Hope said that well find out if his filing will ultimately result in the impeachment of Fairfax.
In explaining why he did not file articles of impeachment against Governor Ralph Northam and Virginia State Attorney General Mark Herring who are facing their own scandals Hopw also said this: This clearly meets that threshold [for impeachment]. While the events that occurred 30-some years ago with the governor and the attorney general, while theyre heinous and clearly insensitive, they dont rise to the same level.

Is it just me or is it just a coincidence he is only pushing for impeachment of the black guy?

(46,121 posts)nothing to do with how he's carried out his duties in office. If he is impeached, then, to use Trump's words, it is a "witch hunt".

Regarding the issue of Fairfax being the black man among the 3 accused, whether the accusations are true or not, they are very different from those of the two white men, who are accused of dressing up in black face.
VA state rep Hope seems to be a good guy, a solid Democrat and no conservative agent masquerading under our label. Totally speculation, I haven't read it, but this might well be a maneuver by the Democratic caucus to quickly replace Fairfax with a Democrat while they still can, who would become governor if Northam resigned. A tragedy if Fairfax is not guilty, but...2 accusers now.

(4,494 posts)The Governor shall have power to fill vacancies in all offices of the Commonwealth for the filling of which the Constitution and laws make no other provision. If such office be one filled by the election of the people, the appointee shall hold office until the next general election, and thereafter until his successor qualifies, according to law. The General Assembly shall, if it is in session, fill vacancies in all offices which are filled by election by that body.
