Trump's tax law was a giant FU to blue states, because blue states

are the ones that tend to have high state and local taxes, and the deductions for those were capped.

So the blue states, which already were paying a disproportionate share of the taxes going into the US treasury, are now paying an even more disproportionate share. And every blue state voter who voted for Trump or a GOP candidate in Congress was choosing this.

The trick of the R's was to disguise the impact till after the election, by making sure that monthly withholding amounts didn't go up enough to alert voters as to their new tax rates. So millions are finding out only now that instead of getting their usual refund (as 75% of voters usually do) they are going to owe money this year.

All so Trump could brag about tax cuts to his fans in the red states.

I would consider the idea of secession.

Our forefathers did from Britain over similar tax issues.

...the SALT cap at $10,000 was a dead giveaway to go after places like Los Angeles, the Bay Area, NYC etc. That was immediately obvious back in December 2017 when the tax "reform" was enacted as a complete FU to many blue states on both coasts, as well as inland.

I'm not surprised at the fury now.

We USED to have funded public schools (until Walker and Repub Act 10) and on and on.

Now our taxes are going to paying for charter schools and the likes of Foxconn.

So our state is now called on the way to "Wississippi" among those who really care, and our taxes are not really acknowledged in the tax code.

They just announced the "brilliant idea" that our FREEways should be TOLL ways even though we have paid for them over and over while the Repubs have siphoned it off to their own pet ideas at the behest of their Koch masters.

My overall taxes are going UP due to the combo of state and local property taxes not meeting the threshold of any meaningful deduction on the fed forms. And I am not wealthy by any standard other than my mid-sized home is paid for and in a suburban area.

One more reason for to HATE Republicans, even tho I do personally adore my neighbors who are stuck in the past and hope that "mainstream" Repugs like Collins will mean what they say but not do. They will do anything for me and the same for me for them. Lovely people, but so so wrong. Strange times for sure.

7. Need A Tax Distribution Law

that distributes tax revenue to areas where it originates. And I mean at all levels fed/state/county. This "tax redistribution" is probably why the "high tax" areas have higher taxes in the first place (and they complain about socialism). Taxes from "high tax" areas are not getting returned to their origination point so they have to make up for it by increasing their own local taxes to make up for the net loss of revenue on the state and federal levels. In my state, 5-10 counties account for nearly 50% of the state income and consumption taxes (and they would all be listed as "high tax" areas). This needs to be addressed.
