I'd rather see a primary winner that appeals to the base, gets the middle of the road and left-leaning independents, and then grabs for those who don't vote at all instead of trying to get more righties.

What the media and republicans call "left-leaning" was at one time the "middle". We have to stop letting the right control the narrative and defining us. Instead, we should be convincing people that Democrats represent the average person and his or her needs.

As soon as you allow your opponent to define you, you are setting yourself up to lose. The right is very skilled at this tactic, but they lack imagination. They'll keep doing the same thing over and over again, all we have to do is change our response. They get so flustered when we don't react predictably.

we can't forget that and expect that their entire philosophies have changed. Their common enemy, Trump and Trump policies doesn't change that. They will continue to press RW viewpoints overall.

And republicans need to take responsibility for the monster that THEY created. We wouldn't be stuck with Trump in the White House if they hadn't spent decades wooing the deplorables who idolize the man. Republicans made too many promises that they could not and would not ever keep, all to get a vote.

If they want a better candidate, they need to be a better party.

and that is pretty much what I'm picturing. The party has been using smoke and mirrors politics for years and really lacks any substance aside from corporate cash. Now with Trump, they don't even have their faux ideologies of small government, family and religious values, financial responsibility, lower taxes, free trade, etc. Trump pretty much destroyed their platform in two short years.

Their house of cards has finally come down and I don't see it recovering for a long time. They need to be a minority for a long time, so we can actually make some real progress and hopefully save the planet.

appeal to conservatives, but to find OUR best candidate.

And that means someone who can work WITH conservatives, not become one of them.

They were venal and racist enough to be repugs and are just repelled by the criminality or grossness of Hair Furor, but still are pro-oligarchs and anti-worker. Look at GW campaigning for Kavarape, disgusting! So is Schmidt with his head up Schulz's ass and Navarro! Nicole Wallace and Jennifer Rubin are the only ones that seem to have changed and not real sure of them either.

Right leaning indies and Republicans in Exile. We need our team and Left leaning indies and we have more than enough with them, especially given the preznit's able (!) assistance.

But feel free to push for a third party candidate to represent the Never Trump crowd: you'll be on the right side of history, can help defeat tRump by splitting the vote and may even found a Neo-Republican Party that isn't insane. Win-win-win.

I recently learned that her father was a contra. So I guess that shows her political lean even if you do not know anything else about her.

Someone may or may not adopt the political allegiances of others in their family.

I don’t know why people are suddenly surprised that Navarro is a Republican, but treating people as individuals is a much better route.

Her father being a Contra is not irrelevant because she did adopt her father's political allegiances. The point is it is not surprising how she responded to Elizabeth Warren due to her background, which includes having a father who was a Contra.

I do not think people are surprised that Navarro is a Republican. I know I am not surprised that she is a Republican. I have known from the beginning that she was a Republican. That is why I am not surprised by her stance on Elizabeth Warren.
