https://www.thedailybeast.com/bernie-sanders-bests-kamala-harris-first-day-donor-total-in-four-hours
In just over the first four hours of his 2020 presidential campaign, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) had already raised money from 42,000 donors, a total that bested the number Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) had hit in the first full day of her campaign. The campaign estimated that Sanders had raised $1.2 million in three-and-a-half hours on Tuesday. The figure is another sign of the incredible money-raising prowess that Sanders brings to the race. Up to this point, Harris had been the most dynamic fundraiser among Democratic candidates in the race, having raised a whopping $1.5 million in 24 hours after declaring from more than 38,000 individual donors. That number, the Harris campaign noted at the time, had surpassed the number of individual donors for Sanders in his first day of running during his 2016 bid. Now, Sanders current campaign, says they have already received contributions that beat both of those figures.

(26,330 posts)Sanders tax return: As boring as promised
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders released his 2014 tax returns Friday night, showing that he paid $27,653 in federal taxes on adjusted gross income of $205,271.
The Vermont senator pledged to release the filings during the Democratic debate on Thursday night after sparring with Hillary Clinton over financial disclosure issues.
The majority of Sanders earnings came from his $174,000 salary as a U.S. senator, as well as Social Security benefits.
The returns, filed jointly with his wife, Jane, were just as boring and straightforward as Sanders repeatedly said they would be, particularly compared to those of Hillary Clinton, his multi-millionaire opponent for the nomination.

I am from California, and that AG story is a distortion. It had to do with freezing assets of those charged.
It was not unlike those who tried to paint Hillary as a defender of a pedofile(sic), ignoring the fact that she tried to be released from that case, but the judge wouldn't let her, and as an attorney that was her job to defend that client to the best of her ability
As for Franken, regardless of the pressure, in the end it was his choice to resign. and to make it clear I was not happy at all what the Democrats did to Al, and I think he got railroaded, but he could have fought it
To be honest I haven't decided yet who I am going to vote for, but I donated to my Senator today on the basis that when in NH today she made it clear she was a DEMOCRAT, not a Democratic Socialist or independent
I also am not a single issue voter, a lot of things go into my decision who I will eventually support

(8,679 posts)I suspect he will not do well and certainly nowhere near what he did in 2016 where he blew away Hillary and captured 60% of the vote.
Then in SC I am sure he will do very poorly given the large percent of AA voters. Harris will likely do very well there. Then Nevada which will likely also go big for Harris.
If he lasts until Super Tuesday, he will then get trounced by a Harris who will be on a roll plus the fact her home state CA is now a Super Tues state.
Hopefully at that point he will come to his senses and drop out.

(3,259 posts)I would say this looks like a poor start for Sanders.
"The California Democrat announced Tuesday that she had raised $1.5 million from roughly 38,000 donors in the first 24 hours after she made her 2020 plans official."
No go look at name recognition differences, email database differences, and the fact that one of them has been running for President for years while the other just announced. I don't think this looks good for Sanders.

For the record, I don't know the demographics of either of their recent donations, just another metric that seems relevant to consider.

(3,259 posts)How long has Harris been running nationally. That was a part of my point.
Cuthbert Allgood
(4,925 posts)But it is also very likely that the majority of her support came from CA. I don't know that, again, for the record. But statistically, if a certain percentage of a candidates constituents donate to them, that would mean the bulk of Harris is from CA.

However, Trump totally gave the game away when he wished him well. I wouldn't be surprised if a large proportion of those donations come, somehow, from Russia. Can any of you tell me you'll let go of all this fruitless bickering, and counterproductive jealousy this time no matter who wins the DNC 2020 primary ? Did you last time ? Because if you don't then you may as well be voting republican.
Age is not a reason not to vote for someone, gender is not a reason not to vote for someone, race is not a reason not to vote for someone. If we want to lose yet another election then the negativity I see in this post is exactly the losing formula. I understand many of you are worried, and you're right to be worried, but this kind of division can not be afforded this time at all. It's exactly what the Russian/trump trolls are licking their chops to cultivate. Stating the obvious...DU like any other site on the internet is not invulnerable to schill accounts trying to spread discontent and ill will among us.Their schill army sits back and laughs at stuff like this while the comment sections (like this one) do the work for them, and I have the succinct idea that is not what most people here want.
Personally I am not encouraged by the large field of candidates, not that I think any one candidate should not run, but because we have to take more time to narrow the field and unify behind one. You have to consider the fact that republican voters are as decided now as they were in 2016 who they are going to vote for... again... that i guarantee you. That being said I am far less encouraged by, and frustrated by democrat, progressive, and independent voters (whom all share more values with each other than they do these fascists now ruining our nation) still carrying on with all this name calling, finger pointing, generally childish behavior, and feuding with each other.
If as adults we can not all come together and find a consensus on this matter then WE WILL LOSE YET ANOTHER PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN 2020. These attitudes of defeatism, and resentment must be summarily dealt with by first flushing it down the toilet.. where it belongs.
The great majority of Republican/Trump voters in 2016 had no doubt who their vote was for... and look what that got them. We must be as decided as they were last time or we will lose again.
The candidates themselves also have the responsibility to deal with each other fairly if they all want OUR SIDE TO WIN and think that most them already are diplomatic enough to understand they are stronger together, and have a much better chance at winning an election if they know when to concede to each other and adopt each others strengths and combine them .. e.g. Think about it. .. regardless If It's Warren, Harris, Beto, Biden, or Bernie, as the nominee I have always thought the ultimate honor would be to pick one of the other candidates as their VP choice. IDK ...Just Imagine something amazing like Beto/Warren, or Sanders/Beto, Warren/Harris, Biden/Beto, Harris/Beto, frankly I'd take any of those over the nightmare we're all currently being forced to live through now...wouldn't you ?
