Back in the late 80's, the Green Party started to coalesce around environmental issues....

I was attracted to the scene but saw very quickly that they were all over the place as far as issues go and couldn't decide to even cobble together a simple, easy to relate, statement that would capture the true essence of the Green Party here in Cuyahoga County.

After about six months of meetings and trying to distill some kind of statement, we were still trying to decide what the Green Party was.

It was then I realized that most people did not accept the fact that the two main party’s have set things up that the people who control the chamber get to organize and set the agenda.

So, my suggestion was if we won some seats, we should try to gently align with the democrats in order to get some voices in the legislative agenda.

You think I had called them all Nazi’s.

As that meeting broke down, the performance artists in the group came up with an idea to show the ravages of the Industrial complex through giant puppet show on Public Square.

I was for dong some action that would draw attention, but my idea was to set up several public clean zone where we would go out and clean up the trash, plant grass, get the place a little in order and set up recycle bins that the Greens would tend to.

Well, nothing much happened.

I don’t there are that many people who truly knowhow government truly works.

So there you go, The Greens are still at it and I applaud what they are doing. I even contributed some cash and put up signs in my yard for their candidate for the newly created County Executive.
They found out the hard way about how unforgiving politics as it is in our Country can be.
Just a few notes about grass roots politics from the outside looking in.

Just goes to show you that, as George Carlin aptly said that there is stupidity everywhere.

So how did that work out fer ya Greens? George Bush, the worst environmental president of all time defeats Al Gore, putatively (we will never know) the best environmental president. He at least talked the talk.

Nader is an asshole as are the people who supported him.

BTW, this is Democratic Underground.
