The Republicans are well-organized this years. They have literally billions of dollars in their war chests. They plan to disenfranchise millions of minority and elderly voters--and they're worried that they might lose after all.
There is an interesting article on MSNBC stating that Republicans are beginning to discover that their name-brand is damaged again. This time, public dislike isn't centered around one George Dubya' What's-his-name, it's centered around the entire Republican Party. Voters are finally beginning to take note of Republican political positions and also what a Romney--Ryan/Rand economic agenda would be.
Todd Akin's comment concerning rape has not only begun to get public attention, but some of the electorate is beginning to see if THEIR Republican political candidates hold similar views--or have been voting the same way. They're also beginning to wonder about what Randian plans for Social Security and medicare would do to them and their loved ones.
I don't deny this is a close election, and that it's all too likely that we'll see Republican pols elected we fought hard to defeat this year. There is no excuse for giving up. There is NO excuse for sitting out this election. There is no excuse for not voting--even in certain-loss races, a vote against a Republican is a vote of protest that would be ignored if we opt out and cop out.

Candidates and surrogates must constantly pound home the truth that Akin's statements were no "misspoken" mistake, but are rather the core values that drive today's GOP.

(71,611 posts)There's just far too much congruence between the predations of vulture capitalists (e.g. the Kochs) and the wide array of rapists and sexual predators. Given that ethical congruence, their sympathy (or feelings of kinship) for the victims of such predations are seriously atrophied.
(Just compare the "buyer beware" mentality to the blame-the-victim knee-jerk reaction.)

(45,319 posts)This quoted piece is contradictory. They are super organized but also just now noticing the damage their brand has undergone? Mutually exclusive. Organized people would not have to see their brand on fire to notice the damage. Seriously, everyone in the election has piles of money, a higher pile is not all that much of an advantage. It just isn't. Look to product marketing and learn facts rather than repeat things you've heard.

(17,266 posts)With all that $$$ and all that power, how is it that 'they' let Rmoney get the nom?
Why did the silver spike of Ryan get thrust through the Rmoney campaign?
Why is the media finally seeming to do the job of reporting the negatives of a Republican candidate.... including FOX 'News'?
Why was the Republican Convention scheduled in Tampa at the beginning of Hurricane season?
And most importantly: Who is the best possible woman to run as the Republican Candidate for President in 2016?
Vogon_Glory
(9,118 posts)With all that $$ and that power... (A) Money only goes so far. My guess is that R-money got so far because he was able to get the most primary voters in Republican primaries. Down here in Texas, the establishment Republican politician gunning for the nomination for a vacant US Senate seat had a large war-chest yet got thumped by a better-organized, energetic Tea Party candidate.
Ryan Silver Spike..I think the R's need lots of money, the Kochs wanted Ryan on the ticket for this election or further down the road, and Mittsie's people decided that Ryan was a pretty face who looked like an All-American whitebread wonk (He doesn't have to BE a wonk, he only needs to play one on TV and in front of carefully pre-screened audiences).
I think the media was FORCED to pay attention by activism of some Democratic and progressive campaigners and by Todd Akin shooting off his mouth. The uproar forced the lazy @ss-ed corporate media to not only note that Akin was connected to Ryan, but that there were interesting threads running from Akin and Ryan from abortion to Medicare to Social Security. But the news-critters will get back to gushing about some Kardashian sister's love affairs shortly.
I suspect that the GOPsters picked Tampa in part because of successful lobbying by Florida politicos and because they didn't think that their convention might end up as a possible bull's eye for a hurricane. IMO climate change denialists don't pay much attention as to how extreme weather might affect them PERSONALLY. (They might get to find out).
I don't know which woman the Republicans could pick and run in 2016. They don't have as many options as we Democrats do and even if they pick a Palinesque candidate, she'd still have to face the general electorate in November, 2016. Do you think that the 2016 electorate could stand for a younger Jan Brewer or a Sarah Palin clone?

(16,881 posts)... General Dempsey, Chairman of Americas Joint Chiefs of Staff, the man who flew to Tel Aviv and informed Netanyahu that America wanted no part of his scheming against Iran was the subject of an assassination attempt in Afghanistan.
This wasnt an act of terrorism or Taliban militants. It was a mob hit against someone who failed to kiss the feet of Netanyahu...
... To some Americans, the attack appears to be a reprisal against Dempsey who, out of coincidence, cited the motive in his own appraisal of Israels judgment, their constant suspicion.
News agencies buried the failed attack, knowing Dempsey is hated by Netanyahu and respected by the Taliban as both truthful and fair....
... Only two weeks ago, Presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney, returned from a trip overseas, coming back to America with $60 million dollars collected in Israel and Britain while accompanied by Casino boss Sheldon Adelson whose Las Vegas and China organizations have long been reputed to be the center of worldwide organized crime...

But I guess PressTV tells you they did not report on it, well it must be true.
I also heard the story on CNN, as well as MSNBC, and NPR.
I would not call this a very well hidden story, now would you?

(10,495 posts)Howard Dean proved this could work. Let's contrast Obama and Bush in a commercial, and then show that Romney/Ryan have the same policies as Bush. Hammer that up their asses! Ask the question, "Do you want to fall off of the cliff again?" we have got to get both houses of Congress and keep the White House! If we don't, gridlock for 4 more!

See the clouds are parting
The sun begins to shine
Obamas gone, Romneys in
Whats mine is mine and
whats thine will be mine, mine, mine
See old granny begging
In front of the liquor store
She had Social Security til 2013
She aint got it anymore
See the homeless family
Sheltered in the cardboard box
The Middle Class has lost them
But Dad thinks R-money rocks
See Suzy in a gee-string
Grinding on a tiny stage
Shell afford next years tuition
Come, children, turn the page.
Lester has a serious condition
Confirmed by a clinic physician
Hes feeling rather ill
His insurer gives him some counsel
Take a fatal hemlock pill
See Bills family in a house
A box for some large appliance
They still hold for the same old song
A song of self-reliance.
See Anita queuing at the local pantry
Empty stomach growling loud
Hunger has made her humble
Her job prospects are scanty.

(9,118 posts)No, let's NOT get complacent.
But an article like the one I linked in my original post is a tonic for my jitters this election. I perform better when I'm hopeful. I need hope; otherwise I risk giving into despair, and none of us can afford that.
I hope the two learned perfessers will be forced to make some revisions to their model after this November should Divine Providence smile on our republic and Barack Obama is re-elected as President.
