The ad focuses on the economy, with Clinton recalling the prosperity during his presidency and saying Obama's policies are needed to rebuild America.
"This election, to me, is about which candidate is more likely to return us to full employment. This is a clear choice," says Clinton in the ad. "The Republican plan is to cut more taxes on upper-income people and go back to deregulation. That's what got us in trouble in the first place."
"President Obama has a plan to rebuild America from the ground-up -- investing in innovation, education and job training. It only works if there is a strong middle class," Clinton adds. "That's what happened when I was president. We need to keep going with his plan."
The new ad will air in New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Colorado and Nevada.

Excellent ad. The Obama campaign needs to have Bill Clinton out campaigning almost as if he's the one running for president. Clinton is very popular with independents, and if they see he has the president's back Obama is that much more likely to win.

(2,163 posts)I don't think it's a good idea for Bill Clinton to campaign with President Obama.
just my take on it.

(10,960 posts)I think that's more the point, since Bill isn't on the ballot.
Bill is the most popular Democrat, with the possible exception of his wife, and was president during the only economic good times a lot of Americans have ever seen.
It certainly will not hurt Obama to be associated with the 1990s.

(23,864 posts)I'm a huge critic of President Obama's choices but I still want him to win. There was a good reason Gore didn't bring Clinton in and make him a big part of his 2000 campaign: Baggage. I assume that someone at Obama 2012 headquarters has done the arithmetic and apparently believes the positives outweigh the negatives.
I don't see the same benefits.
Toss Clinton, get a deck of union and corporate endorsers to fill the same role as Clinton and it would seem to me to be a better deal for the message Obama's trying to get out during the campaign.

(10,960 posts)His failure to run as a third Clinton term was a terrible error, and I know I am not alone in the analysis.
Gore even picked Lieberman to show his independence from Clinton.
