The editors of Newsweek have created a firestorm by changing the cursor on their website to a coat hanger. Is this their way of supporting an abortion ban? Are they supporting Todd Akin and his "legitimate rape" position? Further, they have not removed the cursor or made any attempt to explain its meaning or apologize for it.
It is time to remove something from Newsweek, money!!! Do not buy their magazine, do not go to their website and boycott any business that advertises with them. The only way to get their attention is to hit them in the wallet! Now is the time to show these cowards who is in charge of the American economy: the consumer!!! Boycott Newsweek!!! Tell your friends, post it on social media, get the word out: BOYCOTT NEWSWEEK!!!
Newsweek has what--- 5 readers?
They're doing just fine when it comes to going out of business.
I give them 2 more years max.

I think you've grabbed the wrong end of the stick and obviously have difficulty with symbolism.
Not to say that I'm a fan of Newsweek, but really, "Lighten up, Francis."

(7,290 posts)1) You are the first and only person I've encountered here that sees the coat hanger cursor as an anti-choice device. To everyone else, it is obvious that Newsweek (and no, I'm not a fan of Newsweek) is pointing out what will happen if the GOP's view of pregnancy and abortion are permitted to prevail.
2) With 94 posts, you have the gall to accuse a longtime poster of being a "teabagging troll"?

(69,059 posts)Newsweek Tumblr Changes Cursor to Coat Hanger to Mock Women
Proving that they have no shame (as if this were in doubt after they published Niall Fergusons Obama article chock full of factual inaccuracies), today Newsweek changed the mouse/cursor on their Tumblr account to a coat hanger in order to mock Huffington Posts use of a coat hanger in discussing the GOPs party platform. Huff Pos headline reads: GOP PLATFORM: ANTI-ABORTION AMENDMENT, NO RAPE EXEMPTION.
Hard to understand how Newsweek doesnt get that the coat hanger image is not hyperbole. No exemption for rape, capiche? So under this Republican scenario, HOW DOES NEWSWEEK THINK WOMEN/YOUNG GIRLS WILL BE DEALING WITH BEING IMPREGNATED BY A RAPIST OR RELATIVE?
Newsweek wrote, Were retiring the mustache cursor for the day. Heres our new one: a coat hanger. (Warning, the coat hanger is still the cursor and it made me literally gag with pain just trying to navigate the page long enough to get a screengrab.)
Ha ha, right? Right? Do you get it? DEATH OF WOMEN IS FUNNY! Perhaps the old men at Newsweek will pardon us if our concern for our lives gets in the way of our appreciation of their startlingly archaic and misguided, misogynistic humor.

(60,567 posts)Two blogs I never read and have no interest in reading.
I am underwhelmed by the profundity of it all. It's not worth my time to try to figure out who did what and what was meant by whatever they did.
Thanks for the clarification.

(60,567 posts)I haven't read Newsweek since about 1978, but I did click on it just now because of this OP.
I didn't see any coat hanger cursor.

(14,549 posts)You can only boycott business where you are the customer. Chickens can't boycott KFC. Newsweek's customer is their advertisers.
Your post shows a loose grip on what boycotts are and an even looser grasp of what the coat hanger symbol means.
