Brian Williams may score top time slot after late-night ratings success

Brian Williams could come back from TV news exile, Page Six is told.

The anchor was booted from the “NBC Nightly News” in 2015 after it was revealed that he’d embellished some stories with fictional details — and sent to the relative Siberia of 11 p.m. on sister station MSNBC.

But despite his tarnished reputation and graveyard-adjacent time slot, Williams has made his “11th Hour With Brian Williams” show a legit hit, beating CNN and Fox News for three months straight.

Now 30 Rock insiders say Williams could move to a more prominent time slot, possibly replacing vet Chris Matthews at 7 p.m.

2. Replacing Tweety would be fine. Just leave everyone else alone.

I was especially concerned they'd stick Williams into Chris Hayes' slot, trying to play off Rachel's strong ratings. Or move him up into Lawrence O'Donnell's slot. No matter how much his ratings have improved, Williams is still a pretty face. Lawrence has experience actually working in the Senate that he can -- and does -- draw on.

As far as Matthews is concerned:

He's the only one I watch on CNN.

Trump hates Don Lemon with a purple passion.

5. Let's see what happens to his ratings when he is not following

Rachel and Lawrence. I generally turn him off. He is usually just rehashing everything else that I have heard and does not have much to add.

On the other hand... I find Chris Matthews insufferable, because he is so rude to his guests and he never lets them finish a thought. JMHO

9. Yes, following Rachel and Lawrence is a big reason for his success

I think he's a better host than Chris Matthews, so I want Brian to stay on. But his success at 11 p.m. doesn't mean it will automatically translate to success at 7 p.m. Personally I'd like to see Joy Reid at that time slot. I think she'd be great, and more liberal/progressive than Williams.

And Tweety grates on me because he asks questions and never listens to answers, but I think his heart is in the right place hope his health problems aren't serious.
