Rep. Ilhan Omar blasts GOP over poster linking her with the 9/11 attacks

@AOC
I’m pretty heartbroken that there isn’t more denunciation of this outward and blatant expression of bigotry and Islamophobia by a state party.

IMO those who stood up against anti-Semitism a few weeks ago should also be calling out the Islamophobia here, too.

Just deplorable. I despise the ppl in the GOP that did this. GAH

in the state capitol. Most people have no idea it did. Probably those who watch the evening news in WV heard, but only because the subsequent disturbance in the state capital, not because they saw the poster.

WaPo: Pushkin, who is Jewish, said he condemned the poster from the floor of the House and asked his colleagues to do the same. “I said, ‘In 1933 in Berlin, they might have had a similar poster about somebody like me,’ ” he said.

But no Republican delegates condemned the poster, Pushkin said. “I’m really disappointed that not a single Republican elected official in this building could join me in saying it’s wrong,” he said. Many Republicans got up to speak about the First Amendment in response, according to West Virginia Public Radio.

This is a dreadful and scary bad sign. But it would be far wiser NOT to castigate and demoralize society in general with false equivalences over failure to shout so loud that she's aware of it -- rather to point out that most Americans are far better than this and reject this kind of behavior. We know most do, and friends and family know how they feel.

When decent people fail, those who do, it is because they did not vote their refusal to accept this. And that's where we need to focus on improvement. Civic duty.
