I do not think it possible to over estimate his stupidity. I am still bewildered that such a stupid man is president.

(28,752 posts)They are angry at an economy and a world that has left them behind. Too much austerity and stagnant wages and cuts to Education have created these gullible angry people. We have to show them that we have something to offer them like hope and a better life. He has offered them anger, justification, glorification of ignorance and above all COMMUNITY! He made them feel important and vindicated in their anger. We must offer more! Please no more put downs of these victims of the Neoliberal Agenda!

(7,142 posts)He plays to his base who is stupid. Trump, however, is mentally ill. I live among Trumpers in central Pa. and they are zombies who believe his every word, and importantly, the M$M is complicit with Trump, in giving him his platform and making him seem believable.

(16,856 posts)That's why he's gotten as far as he has in life. He's a conman who accuses others of being conmen. He's a bullshit artist who accuses others of being liars. Donald should never have gotten this far in life, and he never would have if there weren't so many stupid people in the world. But he doesn't have any real, objective knowledge. He's a total idiot when it comes to the kind of knowledge that separates humans from the rest of the primates.

(5,106 posts)We tend to think of E.Q. as a positive thing, but Trump uses it in a VERY negative way. He's also a master at projection: Anything of which he accuses others, is sure to be of what he,himself, is guilty. Perfect example: his accusations against the Clinton Foundation, versus all that eventually busted the "Trump Foundation."

(15,245 posts)What is Donald Trumps actual cognitive functioning? Based on his seemingly immature speech patterns it should dawn on most people there is something seriously wrong. His actions embracing brutal murderous thugs, constantly lying, denial of the obvious, and projection would make a cognitive evaluation a monumental task. If someday Donald is actually charged or convicted of Federal crimes his behavior is so extreme there could actually be questions of sanity for Donald Trump. Having dealt professionally with people who are mentally ill I can see how his thought processes are different from most people by words and action. It might be questioned some day in a legal setting; is Donald Trump sane?

(12,344 posts)He was very evasive and appeared ignorant of basic contract law, but spoke in a normal tone with complete sentences. So what you see on TV is an act.

(34,137 posts)He reminds me of Ronald Reagan towards the end of his time in the White House. Reagan could get up in front of a crowd and deliver his performance but he was kept out of the public view because he was not truly coherent.
He also reminds me of my mother. Three years ago she could have intelligent conversations. Two years ago she only became animated when talking about the past and only had memories from years and years ago. By last May she really was not able to talk, lost words, and could not respond to simple questions.
Maybe in 2016 Trump could make complete sentences but it's now over two years later and he could have lost that ability - until he gets in front of an adoring crowd when we can put together word salad that gets him a positive response.

(12,344 posts)They sound a bit more unhinged but only a bit. He's just gotten better at feeding off the crowd's energy, and he no longer has anyone near him who can offer restraint. He spoke at a fourth grade level in 2016 and still does today. A level probably chosen to reach most of his audience without sounding too childish to them (how he sounds to us doesn't matter).
Also he's learned his crowd will believe anything he says, no matter what. That's why he can now say he has to finish the wall he never started. It's not a delusion. It gives him both an accomplishment and a reason for re-election. He knows what he is saying.

(15,245 posts)It would be fascinating to see what they are like in a clinical setting. This is his last defense.

(16,856 posts)if he lives long enough to be tried, he'll probably get off with an insanity defense. He's obviously in bad health, physically and mentally, so I really don't expect him to live much longer. But if he does live for another ten years or so, his chances of doing any time in prison are pretty low, unfortunately. I wish it were otherwise.
