Omaha police cited a 78-year-old woman this week on suspicion of penning the racist message found last week on a northwest Omaha garage door.

The message, which included the n-word, referred to a campaign sign in support of Democratic congressional candidate John Ewing, who is black. The resident of the house had displayed a Ewing sign during the primary campaign.

The woman, who lives in the area of Tomahawk Hills Park near Fort Street and 97th Avenue, was cited for destruction of property, a misdemeanor.

Police are asking any possible witness to contact detectives.
