Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Chews Up Conservative Writers Girl Scout Cookie Boycott
Jane Chastains AOC Was A Girl Scout... Just Say No To The Cookies column was ridiculed by the freshman lawmaker.
By Lee Moran
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) fired back at a conservative writer who called on people to boycott Girl Scout Cookies because of the freshman lawmakers past membership in the organization.
Former sportscaster Jane Chastain, 76, also criticized the Girl Scouts for a partnership with International Womens Day, which falls on Friday, in her column for fringe right-wing website WND ― titled AOC Was A Girl Scout
Just Say No To The Cookies. Chastain railed against the reported socialist origins of International Womens Day as she lamented how todays Girl Scouts are a far cry from those of my youth, which trained us to put God and country before everything else.
It is little wonder the Girl Scouts have taken a sharp left turn and can be found marching for abortion rights, gun control and other radical feminist events like International Womens Day, Chastain added.
Chastain noted that Girl Scout alums (including Ocasio-Cortez) make up 72 percent of female senators and 60 percent of the women in the 116th Congress. But only one is Republican.
So before you decide to embrace an International Womens Day celebration or buy the cookies, ask yourself, Will the country be better off with more representatives like the young socialist Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez? Chastain asked. If not, its a good time to start your diet.

(112,434 posts)However, I'll see if I can spare a few bucks and say why. I suspect that I might irritate some GOP mothers when I do so since I'm in a red county.

(7,531 posts)Last time I bought some they seemed to be $2-$3 a box.
I can't eat cookies because I'm on Keto, but now I may grab a box to keep around for guests. I appreciate the GSA have become more progressive as the Boy Scout groups seem to hem to the conservatives.
What's the best kind? I always was partial to Thin Mints, but I know the shortbread butter cookies were pretty awesome too. (Trefoils?)
My mom is always asking for soft oatmeal cookies, is there a GS kind she'd like?

(112,434 posts)I can usually find acceptable alternatives for most of the brands at the Dollar General for $1.50 - $2 a box.
I usually buy Samoas or Thin Mints. I don't know much about what other alternatives since I haven't seen an order form for more than a decade. I usually purchased the cookies because my supervisor's adopted daughter was a Girl Scout. The thing about being a bachelor with no kids meant that I was usually at the top of the list for office donations--even after I found out I was diabetic.

(7,531 posts)Especially for brands where quality isn't a factor, but for an extra dollar I'll help out the GS next time I see them!
(Stay away from DG's $1 "cool ranch" tortilla chips. They taste like "cool ranch" as chemically synthesized by a dystopian AI computer!)

(112,434 posts)They replaced the refrigeration units at the Dollar General in Wharton where I live now so the food selection has grown. They also eliminated the area where they some clothing selections (mostly ladies house clothing).
I was more particular of what I bought from Dollar General when I lived in Brenham because they didn't leave the air conditioning on when the store was closed. Almost all the chocolate candy bars had melted.

(7,531 posts)If I just need milk and eggs, slipping in there is easier than going to the big grocery store.
DG is the place where I get my cleaning supplies and products like oil and vinegar and flour and sugar and seasonings and canned goods where a generic brand doesn't make any difference. I also really appreciate the bargain aisle where they have a lot of small-container name brands. Getting smaller containers of laundry supplies for $1 is helpful since I live in an apartment and don't need to drag an entire gallon of fabric softener along with me.
That's wild that any business would shut off the AC at night - I was under the impression that it costs less to maintain a consistent temperature than to shut it off and need blast the place to comfortable climate every day.

(3,765 posts)They are $5 a box!! I bought 4 boxes.

(7,531 posts)Everybody wants more than one box. Everyone has a favorite and a sub favorite. It's easy to hand over a ten or a twenty and not have to make change! $3 was probably a huge hassle.
This is the biggest devious mechanism since the "pop tarts are each one serving but there are two in a wrapper" affair.

(11,662 posts)I gave the Girl Scout at the table $10 and told her to give my two boxes to a family that looked like they could benefit.

(62,448 posts)sounds like she wasn't paying attention during the meetings.
(oh lord, if some republican reads that they will be bringing up a bill to do away with Girl Scouts.)
Written by a proud former GS leader!
Now I will have to seek out some cookies

(315 posts)I'm sorry but I really don't give two runny sh*ts about this story at all. And my daughter is a girl scout. Here's the thing.... republican idiots are going to say stupid shit... every single day. We have so many things that are going bad right now that this is something that I really wish wasn't eating up any news time at all.
I wish the day when people saying stupid crap was disregarded for the stupid crap that it is.

(58,785 posts)I'm guessing his voters will be mostly well satisfied with his service. A career in electoral politics would be a nightmare to me, even after our reforms, but he seems like he might have what it takes to constantly have to fight keep his job and get at least some of his messages through to his constituents.
Otoh, he also sounds smart enough to go for big appointed or NGO contributions instead.

Lets all make it a record year for sales of girls scout cookies...

(4,341 posts)in order to get to their goal, in this case, they don't care to affect negatively little girls for the sole purpose of affecting AOC, or the Democratic party, Ayn Rand must be so proud of these repubs...

(473 posts)I'll buy four boxes, but I can't eat them. I'll leave the paid for cookies on the table and they can sell them again to the next person. Twice the donation, none of the carbs!

(937 posts)I already bought 4 boxes (allow me to recommend the smores-worth the extra dollar) from the little girl on my special needs baseball team. This little girl is autistic and warmly embraced by her troop. I love the girls who sell outside the marijuana dispensaries-buddingentrepreneurs know their market!
Put me down for more boxes this weekend. My son and his friends will always eat them.
Honestly, this boycott is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard.

(1,975 posts)and hugs from the local girl scouts who are AWESOME. They maintain 3 visitor cabins locally as well as all their other duties.
