Jimmy Carter Willing To Travel To North Korea To Help Broker A Deal

According to a Thursday Politico report, Carter (age 94) no longer travels, but told Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) that he would make the trek if President Donald Trump asked him.

In 1994, Carter met with Kim Il Sung and the two leaders hammered out a detailed plan to work towards peace and denuclearization. He is the only American President to have such success with North Korean leadership.

Per Politico, Robert Malley, a conflict specialist who worked under President Barack Obama, also has offered his services.

Trump seems unlikely to take either men up on their offers. In recent days, Trump’s attempt to negotiate with Kim fell apart at the Hanoi summit, and South Korea is now reporting unusual activity at North Korean nuclear missile bases.
