Howard Schultz's Latest Bipartisan Pipe Dream Shows He's a Political Idiot
By Charles P. Pierce
We haven't popped in to see what's going on with the staggeringly unpopular idea of President Howard Schultz for a while, but the burnt-coffee king is still out there, roaming the landscape, spouting bad ideas, and seeing if he can drop his approval rating below those held by every form of skin disease. From NBC News:
Schultz will promise not to nominate a Supreme Court justice unless he or she can be confirmed by two-thirds of the Senate, and he will vow not to sign any legislation that does not have bipartisan support.
This idea is so stupidso brainlessly, soft-headed, unicorn-farting-rainbows idioticI'm amazed that the No Labels crowd didn't pitch it years ago. What Schultz is proposing here is to campaign on a promise that he will convert the presidency into the third branch of the national legislature. And that's the optimistic evaluation. The probable reality is that Schultz is proposing four years of absolute paralysis, and that he knows less about politics than almost any American who walks upright. God save us from the person who thinks a bank balance is an IQ.
