After many false alarms that the special counsel's work is winding down, the clues are mounting that it finally is.

The Mueller probe appears to be in the home stretch.
Some Trump aides and advisers have been making that claim for more than a year, with little basis. But the signs are mounting that its finally happening.
Several came in what was an unusually busy week for Robert Muellers investigation into 2016 Russian election interference, with multiple clues that the special counsels work is finishing with a final report to the Justice Department.
On Wednesday, a federal judge handed a second prison sentence to Paul Manafort. That closed the door on Muellers prosecution of the former Trump campaign chairman, which will put Manafort in jail through the end of 2024 if President Donald Trump doesnt pardon him or commute the sentence.
Meanwhile other clues emerged this week suggesting that Muellers probe is coming to an end. On Tuesday, the special counsels lawyers told a federal judge that they have all the information they need from former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who has been cooperating with Muellers team since he pleaded guilty in December 2017 to lying to the FBI.

(3,344 posts)No. There is NO evidence that Mueller is wrapping up. None! None whatsoever.
Mueller has NOT said that Manafort's prosecution is done. Further charges could come. Or not. But the conclusion of this case is NOT evidence Mueller is wrapping up. Period.
Meanwhile there is abundant evidence that Mueller is not done yet. What about the mystery company that is fighting a subpoena in the Supreme Court? Why is Mueller continuing that fight?
Why is Mueller still fighting to get Andrew Miller to testify in front of his grand jury?
Why are there 12 prosecutors still on Mueller's team?
Why is the Roger Stone case even going forward if Mueller is done? Just to charge someone with lying to the FBI? Really? If so then where are all the charges against others who have obviously lied, like Erik Prince?
Mueller said Flynn gave very substantial information, warranting a reduced sentence. Where is that info? What will it be used for? Nothing? Really?

(3,259 posts)The way they are always written is so similar. "After many false alarms."
I personally think Mueller is just about there. I think we are weeks away from him dropping a handful of more indictments of people he has been monitoring and trying to force an interview with Trump. Trump will not sit down for it under any circumstances. The report drops and then the Special Council focuses on prosecutions.

(3,259 posts)On his team will be working well after the report drops. If there is a showdown with the President it can even continue after the report drops. I fully understand how wrong I might be but I believe Mueller has most of the information he set out to collect that falls directly in line with the Special Council, and has things lined up for further referrals to states or other persons at the FBI. Its not discussed much but he has made multiple attempts to interview Trump, by request. I do believe he will subpoena him very soon. Trump will be interviewed. It will be a stalemate. Mueller will have no power over it. The courts will have no power over it. It will be a stalemate. This is when the report will drop. Then its up to Congress.
With all of that said, I do feel we will soon be seeing the last of the indictments. Some unsealed as making them public at this point would influence the actions of others. Mueller has some work ahead of him in my opinion, even after the report drops.
I normally dont like speculation all that much. For some reason I like speculating about Mueller. In reality, very few in what seems to be a tight group actually know.

Let's just say I'll believe it when I see it.
