Am i wrong in my thinking here? MSM will just make him stronger. (UNLESS some BIG NEWS comes forward that is)

(13,424 posts)We simply need to change our tactics during the debate, perhaps calling out his lies, his bigotry and his lack of a record.

(16,970 posts)They will believe his lies anyhow!

(28,207 posts)No matter what fact, how well packaged, Trump remains fluid and adaptable and will say whatever bullshit comes into his head, that won't be fact-checked in real-time. He'll get the free pass to say whatever crap and he will get away with it. If a Democrat tried that, they would get called out, not by only the RW press, but liberal media outlets.
You can not debate with an insane person or a pathological liar, as they always maintain the advantage.
If you corner them on something, it will be a lie, a change of what the facts are, to 'alternative facts' or some character assassination that is beneath most adults, but not beneath Trump.
The lack of a Presidential Debate, takes oxygen away from Trump. This can be further exacerbated by doing a Phyllis Schlafly and scheduling Democratic events at the same time Trump has his rallys. Beto O'Rourke did this and it was highly successful in stealing Trump's network thunder. This is the tactic that Democrats should do this year. 1) No presidential general debates; 2) Democratic town halls scheduled at the exact same date and time as Trump's rallys.

(3,492 posts)Not debating him allows him to just keep saying anything he wants unchecked. It shouldnt be too hard to trip him up and call him out his blatant lies. A good debater will make him look like a fool.
This is a terrible idea.

(15,115 posts)I'm reminded of the debate against Paul Ryan, when Ryan made some stupid remark and Joe laughed at him and said "that's malarkey". Awesome!

(1,588 posts)Whoever debates him can list every lie, every illegal thing he's plead guilty to and paid his fines. He is the one who will refuse to debate anyone because he can't talk. He wouldn't know what to say. He'd look like the biggest idiot in the world.

I have long thought that the debates are a waste of time. I never learn anything new about either candidate that I didn't already know.

(2,574 posts)Just continue his one sided, infomercial maga rallies & pressers. I doubt Trump will ever share equal mike power with any critic or opponent again.

The Dems should make sure the debates go on without him and an empty chair takes his place.

(23,955 posts)the MSM makes him stronger by default.
if the Democrats don't debate him, advantage Trump.
he is the king of free media coverage, and it's not like actually being the president has reduced his stranglehold on MSM time.
bluestarone
(16,970 posts)He's lied for 2 years now and lying in a debate won't change much (UNLESS we are SPOT on with PROOF)
0rganism
(23,955 posts)at least in a debate the Democratic candidate can have some say about which topic he lies about, and maybe even be ready with a truth trap of some kind. if he doesn't debate, he just says whatever he wants to say all the time anyway. if possible, keep him lying in an indefensible manner on topics of common knowledge.
we can't do that if we don't debate.

(25,183 posts)We need a fighter, someone who will not back down, or be made to look afraid.
If we don't have a Democratic candidate who will speak truth while Trump spews lies, we will lose.
Yes, you are wrong in your thinking.
