Trump was tried two times for income tax fraud, and he lost both cases. (I never knew this)

I heard his biographer David Cay Johnston say this the other day, but could not find any transcripts or article referring to it til now...

DAVID CAY JOHNSTON: That’s right. Now, his cockamamie story is, “Oh, there was a mistake about the address.” It doesn’t work that way. It’s what box has this number, and then it’s automatic. In some ways, it’s not unusual for him to report such small income, because Congress has special rules for the real estate business, that Donald lobbied for, that allows real estate people to live tax-free. But there’s plenty of other evidence. Donald was tried two times for income tax fraud, and he lost both cases. They were civil cases. But you will have seen no mention of them in mainstream media, even though they’re in my biography, The Making of Donald Trump, with the court citations. And the judges in those cases were very harsh on him.

treated by legislators, investigators, prosecutors or journalists as it ought.

Our system if f--ked up, in construction and in execution. To date, Trump has bought/settled/bribed his way clear of all of his criminal activity, and most of the time his misdeeds were outright ignored. He's in his 70s, he's been committing crimes as an adult for half a goddamned century. I'm not satisfied with whatever comeuppance people think is coming down the pike for him -- he'll be dead of old age before he gets his just desserts. This guy is as malevolent and noxious as can be, and he's been this way IN PLAIN SIGHT, for many decades. And he got away with it year after year after year after year. OUR SYSTEM IS F--CKED UP.

but it was awhile back, so I don't recall too much about it now. The book was packed with all sorts financial corruption, pretty overwhelming and much of it public record.

Everything was so in-your-face, it was like he didn't even try to hide what he was doing. The corruption appeared to be almost a badge of honor for him, like people who can afford to pay for something, but take pride in paying less or nothing at all.

Actually believes there is a law that allows "real estate people to live tax free", he has no idea what he is talking about and I might question other things he says. There are always tax loopholes for people who live off investment income, stock trades and the like, but there is no law that allows "real estate people" to live "tax free".
