(22,133 posts)that it's not worth applying for. As one friend told me, it's barely enough to fill one shopping bag of groceries (and it's supposed to last a whole month?).
They are single, male, over 70, make too much, no dependents. A lot of my older, less well off friends are in this boat, but they tell me it's not worth the hassle and has become so political and administrative in nature that it's almost worthless and not worth applying for. Perhaps this is why you hear of stories where an elderly person is stealing a can of tuna because they are hungry?
This is ruining the program. I do of course, want the program to truly help those in need, but politics needs to stay out of it, and there are people in need who truly use this help, which is great. I just wish it would help everyone equally.
