for a conviction still seems very wise.
We still can and should hold hearings. We still can and should subpoena any witnesses the Committees want to call.
But a drive to impeachment that succeeded in the House but failed in the Senate would just leave Trump even stronger. We'll only have one shot to do it right -- and we're not there yet.
With one loud voice, we all need to demand the full Mueller report. That's where we start, right now.

(103,856 posts)and then we have to go to court and be portrayed as whiny/crybaby dems who won't "give it up"..
We have to remember how our media works.. They have collectively spent 2+ years talking about nothing but this story, and now it ends with a whimper.
We have already plunged into 2020 election and Trumpie has bought up a lead.... for his peeps to roll around in, so media will move on.
We have always been on the odd side out in MOST controversies ever since Watergate.. Repubs were caught flatfooted then and they did what they always do..they LEARNED..
They learned how to WIN if you are in the minority...and how to steamroll when you are the majority..
They never apologize, and even though their tactics and policies are toxic sludge, they have managed to have them portrayed as perfectly viable "options"..
This shitstorm needs to be handled with kid gloves and stealthily..unfortunately, these are the two things we do worst.

No problem there.
Who put up that money? And more importantly, WHY?

(13,776 posts)I want investigations until and beyond November 2020, but impeachment at this point would be a mixed bag in the long term.
Nobody who likes Trump would ever be persuaded that an impeachment was justified, and those people live and breathe hatred and resentment, so they would crawl over broken glass to vote against our candidate.
There would be less visceral anger at Pence from moderate voters than there would be at Trump. And I think Pence would be even more dangerous culturally for us because he seems normal, even though his convictions are so reactionary. Hed appoint just as many conservatives to the judiciary as were getting now but it would seem more acceptable.
Whereas the disgust and fury at Trump will continue to motivate Democrats to stay involved, and to vote, until November 2020 and beyond.
Maybe Im just trying to look on the bright side, but at this point, getting rid of him wouldnt be as great as turning him into a huge albatross around the GOPs neck.
