Revealed in hearing this morning: Mueller's grand jury is "continuing robustly"

Charlie Gile @CharlieGileNBC (Associate Producer, NBC News)

Government prosecutors revealed in a hearing this morning that Mueller’s grand jury is “continuing robustly” despite Mueller’s report being submitted to the DOJ. - 11:16 AM - Mar 27, 2019

It should be noted that there have no signs that the grand jury has met since January 24th.

This was revealed in a motions hearing to unseal more details about the mystery Mueller case. Chief Judge Beryl Howell said that public interest is dependent on the status of the grand jury investigation.

She asked assistant US attorney David Goodhand if the grand jury investigation had concluded. “No,” he said. “I can say it’s continuing robustly.”

Sounds like major chaos or at least a power struggle!!!!

Maybe M agreed to preliminary report - Barr pressuring him to wrap it up? Inconclusive at this point??

What possible work could they have left? The only purpose of a grand jury is to create indictments.

Before this weekend, I naively thought that Barr was too much of an old guard to put his reputation on the line for someone as unorthodox as Trump.

Sadly, I was mistaken.

I haven't heard Mueller say a word. Maybe it was just a preliminary report?

Something certainly is up when Barr refuses to say how long the report was. I mean why can't he say how many pages?

The other tell is that Trump would be gloating more and he certainly wouldn't have changed the narrative to health care if Mueller's report was so good to him.

The continual threat of “maybe we should fire Mueller” has been taken off the table by his submission of the report ——-please be patient and watch this unfold

I appreciate your positive outlook! Good to have you! I am a cynic and would not be surprised if nothing comes out of the Mueller investigation beyond the already indicted individuals. It means i won't be disappointed if that were the case. Otoh I would be happily surprised if Individual 1 is somehow held to account.

The indictments are filed by investigators. Grand juries determine whether there is sufficient evidence to go to trial on the indictment charges.

Grand juries don't investigate. All that is done before an indictment is handed to a Grand Jury.

Maybe there are still indictments that are pending...maybe they are for Jr snd kushner and Trump is trying to get their pardons through behind the scenes.

Just hoping for an awesome outside though I realize that isn't really how things work.

The Grand Jury is composed of ordinary citizens, like any jury. Their task is to ask questions of the indicted person. Not sure if witnesses are presented. I think it's just the indicted person.

Their task is simple. Is the evidence listed in the indictment, along w/the indicted person's testimony, enough evidence so that the case can be tried in court? If yes, the case goes to trial. If not, the indicted person is free from the possibility of being tried.

Saying the GJ is investigating is like saying O J Simson's jurors investigated. They are fact finders, for sure. But not investigators.
