Trump Asks Senators to Create 'Spectacular' Health Plan (wait until you read who's writing it)

March 28, 2019 at 6:26 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

“President Trump said he asked a group of U.S. senators to create a health-care plan to replace Obamacare, as his administration seeks to have the law signed by his predecessor invalidated in court,” Bloomberg reports. Sens. John Barrasso (R-WY), Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Rick Scott (R-FL) are developing the plan.

Said Trump: “They are going to work together, come up with something that’s really spectacular. Maybe we’ll even get support in the House from Democrats.”

He added: “But it’s going to be far better than Obamacare.”

they were 'no comment', or lip service, etc. No substance. They're not working on it.

Trump is going to try to kill the ACA in court with no solution to replace it. If he is successful, people will die without that coverage - about 1/1000 who lose the coverage die annually.

They have a plan actually, a pretty flimsy one. The plan is to sell junk insurance. People can buy insurance for practically nothing. I'm sure this insurance will have high deductibles and cover very little. When asked about how it would protect pre-existing conditions the dude said they would just pass a law. They are also going to lower drug prices but he lost me exactly how that would happen. No mention about keeping kids on their parents plan.

They do have a terrible plan they are working on.

I agree they don't have a "comprehensive" plan. I said their plan is to sell junk insurance.

of the following elements:

1) There will be a work requirement, no matter how sick you are.
2) It will be means tested, probably at 50% of the poverty line.
3) There will be federal taxes on the benefits you receive.
4) People with criminal records will not be eligible.
5) It will be paid for by eliminating social security benefits.

Scott was forced out of his hospital chain by his board in July 1997, after the federal government issued 35 warrants to search hospitals that were owned previously or at the time by Columbia/HCA and two companies doing business with the chain in seven states — Florida, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Utah, Oklahoma and Georgia.

Scott had been reluctant to cooperate with federal investigators, not responding to repeated requests for an interview with federal investigators in 1995 regarding accusations against the company.

It wasn’t until six years after Scott resigned that HCA — after scrubbing “Columbia” from its title, Scott’s original company — that it fully settled its federal tab for 14 corporate felonies related to health care fraud: $1.7 billion.

In 2000, Scott was hauled into court over a civil lawsuit in which Nevada Communications Corp. charged that Columbia/HCA violated the terms of a communications contract. Scott refused to answer basic questions and pleaded the Fifth Amendment 75 times.
