What If It Was a Dem President?

We’ve heard a lot about how the Republicans would react if a Democratic president acted like Donald Trump. We know they would have been screaming for impeachment within his/her first few months in office – and for good reason.

But the truth is that if the Democrats had elected anyone like Trump, the Republicans could have sat back and said nothing – because Democrats themselves would have called for impeachment. That’s because we’d put the welfare of our country above the political humiliation of having to admit we were wrong in our choice; that’s because we would never tolerate the kind of conduct Trump has displayed on a daily basis. We would take our licks and move on, knowing that every day someone like Trump was in office would be day closer to disaster for the entire nation.

The minute a Democratic president started spouting ridiculous lies, tweeting incoherent idiocy, Democrats would be scrambling to oust him. If a Democratic president’s closest advisors and cabinet members were put under investigation for possibly colluding with a foreign adversarial power, Democrats would have sought his resignation – and threatened impeachment if he refused to do so.

If a Democratic president overrode the concerns of career professionals and gave security clearances to people deemed a security risk, or had stood on the world stage and sided with our nation’s enemies rather than our own intelligence community, Democratic voters would be calling for his head on a pike.

We have some very dedicated spokespeople and pundits who defend our party at every opportunity. But I can’t imagine a single one of them showing up on the nightly news to defend an unhinged pathological liar who is so obviously stupid, and so blatantly corrupt. I can’t think of a single Democrat who would even attempt to make excuses for locking children in cages, or ignoring climate change, or overturning regulations that protect the environment.

Had a Democratic president appointed people like Betsy DeVos to positions of power, the outcry would have been heard from one coast to the other. Had a Democratic president done even a fraction of what Trump has done, Democrats across the country would be leaving the party in droves rather than acknowledge a vile, obnoxious grifter as the head of their party.

Of course, we would never be in that position, because Democrats would never nominate a self-serving, illiterate, narcissistic con-man to occupy the Oval Office. They have too much respect for the office of the presidency, and are far too conscious of the fact that whoever holds the highest office in the land should – at the very least – be on our country’s side at all times.

The Republicans knew who Donald Trump was long before they nominated him, and encouraged their brain-dead constituents to vote for him. They knew his well-publicized history of shady business dealings, his mob ties, and his legendary dishonesty. They knew he was too stupid to handle governing a nation, and they knew he was too unhinged to be controlled.

But they elected him anyway, knowing full well what a disaster his “pResidency” would be – and have continued to support and enable that disaster as it has played out on a daily basis.

Had a Democratic president been anything like Trump, his own party would have started talking about his removal from office two years ago, because it would be the right and moral thing to do. But as we’ve seen, Republicans have no morals – something they’ve now proven beyond all reasonable doubt.

that there is a democratic member who even comes close to being as dumb, unhinged, crass, crude, rude, repulsive, narcissistic and just plain UGLY as tRump. The gop is the party of dingbats and traitors. tRump is the best example of a true republican we have seen in years. Incompetent, clueless and selfish. The only good that will come out of this disaster of an administration is that the gop will be the failing party for many, many years. This carnival will be difficult for people to forget. He has personified "Republican Party" on the world stage, and nobody approves of it.

twice.

That said, I blame Bill for getting involved with his unpaid intern, Monica Lewinsky. As the most powerful man in the world, he could have easily barred her from entrance to the White House. What infuriated me about his behavior is that he put a presidency, whose policies I and many other Dems believed in, at risk. It was too important for him to potentially waste it all for having that dalliance continue.

Of course, JFK had his dalliances too. And FDR...

How could someone as intelligent as Clinton risk everything for that? The gop members, who were involved in the same type of behavior, were quick to condemn him. Gingrich was the worst. They resented Clinton because of his intelligence, likeability and political savvy. Th gop has never, nor will ever, have a candidate as intelligent and accomplished as Clinton or Obama. That is why they try to cut them down at every turn. That being said, what the HELL made them even THINK tRump could fill the bill?

Because he or she would never have been nominated. Say what you will about superdelegates, but they were put there precisely to avoid nomination of a dangerous imbecile.

We can't make equivalencies because we don't have any, at least in the modern age. Even though the MSM is desperately trying to come up with something to even things out. Sure back in the days of the Dixie Democrats, representatives like Preston Smith Brooks defended slavery. Can we still get caught in sexual misadventure, or college age pranks and actions that today would not be acceptable? Yes. Even financial corruption, I'm sure. But these are all individual cases. We have never seen before a whole party rally round criminal and traitorous behaving leadership.

But the amount of support Michael Avenatti initially got on this board belies your conclusion.
