General Discussion

repeatedly lies? As an example, statements are made as to what "candidate A" said or did when that candidate did not do or say anything close to what this person stated. When challenged, this person doubles down. When asked for a link to corroborative information, there is always an excuse---if there is any response at all.
Attempts to "reason with" this individual---by me and others---remind me of Barney Frank's quip about "having a discussion with a dining room table".
I have been tempted to call the lies what they are, but don't want to violate TOS and don't really want to add to the divisive atmosphere created by this person. I have never put anyone on "ignore" and don't really want to start as it just seems like running from the problem.
Suggestions?

I've encountered that here and there, but the only way to avoid getting yourself in trouble is probably to put them on ignore-- at least until sufficient DUers get clued in and perhaps start calling them on it en masse.

Seems like they could be useful reporting categories in the runup to 2020

(33,527 posts)Even on our end of the political spectrum, there are people who are simply not worth engaging.
I used to get upset with some of these types, but it wasn't worth it; it's not like they're suddenly going to become educated, intelligent, honest...[insert desirable attribute here].
There are plenty of smart and fine people on DU; some who are worth hearing on some topics and not others.
Use the "ignore" button. It's your friend.

(13,912 posts)I seem to have a knack to piss off some DU'ers.. I put them on ignore so I don't see their offensive reply. Works for me.. YMMV.

(33,527 posts)...pissing people off, particularly when it comes to the subject of addressing climate change, since I've looked very deeply into the issue and thus question if so called "renewable energy" is as environmentally benign as nuclear energy is, since nuclear energy might work and so called "renewable energy" hasn't, isn't and won't.
I'm pretty quick with that "ignore" button since I get tired of hearing these formulaic and rote (and smug) repetitions of the stuff I've been hearing for decades while it gets worse and worse.

(9,651 posts)I normally don't use the ignore button either. But in the past week, I have noticed the same people attacking a certain person over and over again, and I decided that I had had it.
So now I'm keeping track, and when the same people keep doing the same things over and over in a negative way, hello ignore button.

(1,397 posts)Very politely, reply with the truth, context, and an appropriate link(s). End your reply with a phrase asking what other DUers think of your interpretation.
DO NOT REPLY TO THE LYING A-HOLE AGAIN ON THIS TOPIC.
Then the rest of us can respond to YOUR helpful info and the liar loses control of the thread. It takes some cooperation from the rest of us, but I think that may come naturally after you have politely pointed out the lie(s).
If this turns out to be a real dud of an idea, IGNORE is a healthy friend (really helps keep the blood pressure from soaring)!
