Rep. Lloyd DOGGETT/tx is gold standard Dem. Why did Lawrence diss him in intro?

Rep. DOGGETT has been fantastic since the '70s in wingnut Texas and has had a target on him for the redneck wingnuts all that time, has been Gerrymandered by them repeatedly to get him out all that time and has *SURVIVED*. He has been indefatigable all these years, traveling every inch of every new district he's GERRY-ed into.

I've never seen him on t.v. yak shows before, so I looked up to the t.v. when I heard he was guesting, then Lawrence gave him a faint-praise introduction, to the effect of "he's the highest ranking member of the (Intelligence?) committee WHO IS AVAILABLE" - uh, *WHAT*?!

DOGGETT took it fine, but it sure sounded like a slap, so WTF Lawrence?! I've often wondered why DOGGETT has been so under the radar forever.

***ON EDIT: Thanks to posters 1-6 for providing information I was lacking, as opposed to "misunderstood" (did Lawrence *say* the thing and I missed it?!1).

He explained that Neal is always that way, he's sort of the Bob Mueller of committee chairmen and he didn't want to make the issue about himself.

So Doggett is, factually, the highest ranking member for the TV shows to talk to.
