WASHINGTON President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to put tariffs on cars coming from Mexico into the United States if Mexico does not continue to help Washington deal with the immigration and drug situation along the southern U.S. border.
Trump told reporters at the White House he would put tariffs on cars or close the border, but he said he may start with the tariffs. He also said he would give Mexico a year to try to stop the flow of drugs before putting tariffs in place.
"A lot of good things are happening with Mexico. Mexico understands that we're going to close the border, or I'm going to tariff the cars," Trump told reporters at the White House.
Trump said he would "probably start off with the tariffs that will be a very powerful incentive."

(11,741 posts)Perhaps the tariffs would result in decreasing demand for cars made in Mexico eventually, but seriously, Trump is a damn moron. He still, after more than 2 years, does not understand what a tariff is. Mexico isn't going to pay anything. The companies importing the cars from Mexica (GM, Ford, Chrysler, etc...) will be paying the price, the importers and dealerships will be paying the price, and the consumer will be paying the price. Yes, eventually, as I said in the beginning sentence, Mexico will see a drop in demand and take an economic hit, but it won't be till after we here in the States take the hit.
Trump is saying, I am going to hurt you buy punching myself in the face, then spraying blood all over you Mexico.
