Rachel Dolezal settles welfare fraud case, agrees to community service, restitution

Rachel Dolezal, who gained notoriety in 2015 when it was revealed that she was a white woman posing as black, has reached an agreement in her welfare fraud case that could see her charges dropped.

Dolezal, the former Spokane, Wash., NAACP leader, was accused of taking more than $8,000 in government money between August 2015 and December 2017 while not reporting almost $83,000 in income during that time period, including from the sale of her memoir, “In Full Color.”

She pleaded not guilty in June, claiming that she “fully disclosed her information.”

Dolezal’s attorney, Bevan Maxey, told KXLY Thursday that she has agreed to pay restitution and do community service. If she follows through within a year, all charges will be dismissed.
