Will litmus test Democratic liberals help re-elect Trump?

The Democrats are fielding, the largest, most diverse and accomplished field of presidential candidates in U.S. history, a full 19 months before divided Americans vote in 2020 on the future of their country.

Yet, in posts by Facebook Democrats and pundits, I am hearing a landslide of complaints about their imperfections, dating back three decades. Before we pick a candidate, it seems, we pick on him (or her).

The cacophony brings to mind a still-on-target 1970's era observation by the late Sen. Eugene McCarthy: Some liberals aren't satisfied with breast beating but insist on nothing less than indecent exposure.

The hits include:

--Joe Biden is too old -- ageism is a prejudice permitted among "progressives" -- makes women uncomfortable with his hugging and kissing, and was a klutz as Senate Judiciary Committee chairman presiding over the 1991 Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill hearings.

Nancy's success in running the House has showed ageism is a false issue.

This doesn't concern the primary campaign(s) per se, but goes to the heart of the presidential election itself. Are we willing to do enough damage to our candidates to handicap our eventual nominee in the general? Obviously SOME people have a vested interested in exactly this happening. Obviously some of THEM hope we will lie down, and put a welcome mat over our faces again. We would do well to identify them a little earlier this time.

We liberals aren't going to be controlled this time. We are the majority and we're going to get our say.

No one is allowed to shut us up.

This has the feel of the old saying about worrying over something that probably won't happen: Paying interest on a loan you didn't take out.
