is my guess.

(42,770 posts)12. That makes sense, but why would the real IRS be
asking them if they are done? I know, I'm belaboring the point, good idea somewhere there, just makes no sense to me.

Clay Jones typically makes a post at his website about all his cartoons. Link for this one below:

I have serious doubts that Donald Trumps taxes have been under audit since 2015. First off, hes not whining about it. He hasnt been tweeting and screaming at the IRS for unfairly attacking him. He hasnt accused the IRS of being a part of the deep state and going after him from directions by Obama and Hillary Clinton. So far, the IRSs audit of him isnt the greatest travesty ever committed against an American president and its not time to investigate the IRS. The second reason I have doubts is that this audit has been ongoing since 2015.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal has asked the IRS for six years of Trumps tax returns. Neal made the request through an obscure but frequently used provision of the federal tax code that allows Congresss tax-writing committees to view tax information on any filer. Trump and Republicans are up in arms over this.
Donald Trump has refused to release his taxes. With the exception of Gerald Ford, Trump was and is the only major party candidate not to release his taxes over the past forty years. Ford didnt totally dodge the issue as he did release tax data. Trumps lawyer, playing whatabout, asked, Why is he not requesting information about the audits of previous presidents? Previous presidents released their taxes, fucknut.
Trump has claimed he cant release his taxes because theyre under audit. Do you really believe that the guy who claimed his New York-born father was born in Germany is telling the truth about the audit? Even if he is telling the truth, there is nothing that prevents him from releasing his taxes during an audit.

A question/reminder, now that I think of it: Wasn't the crux of Travelgate (according to Republican claims) that the Clintons said something about an FBI investigation of the WH travel office when one had not in fact taken place? (There was some kind of investigation that caused the firing, mainly due to the office's woefully inadequate record-keeping.)
IIRC, that false (or at least inaccurate) claim was the basis for congressional hearings and investigation.
(Actually, it was another excuse for the Republican project of having daily headlines accusing the Clintons of something criminal, so that those headlines would stick in peoples' heads.)
