US says reuniting separated families laborious process

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Trump administration wants up to two years to find potentially thousands of children who were separated from their families at the border before a judge halted the practice last year, a task that it says is more laborious than previous efforts because the children are no longer in government custody.

The Justice Department said in a court filing late Friday that it will take at least a year to review about 47,000 cases of unaccompanied children taken into government custody between July 1, 2017 and June 25, 2018 — the day before U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw halted the general practice of splitting families. The administration would begin by sifting through names for traits most likely to signal separation — for example, children under 5.

The administration would provide information on separated families on a rolling basis to the American Civil Liberties Union, which sued to reunite families and criticized the proposed timeline on Saturday.

“We strongly oppose a plan that could take up to two years to locate these families,” said Lee Gelernt, the ACLU’s lead attorney. “The government needs to make this a priority.”

thought out in full, e.g., what to do if families are to be reunited due to some compliance issue that they (the families met) or other legal obligations being met, including that of meeting an immigration judge who would determine their standing (grant refugee status, etc.).

How in the world does one not logically tie the families together in some manner as most normal, rationale people would think (when families are separated for some weird reason (no reason that I've seen justifies these separations), that families will be eventually reunited together?

This broadly speaks of gross incompetence and negligence of the highest order, and bringing untold suffering on the parts of thousands of people. All mostly for political effect for and by rump. Gross incompetence and clearly shows how incompetence rump truly is.

And then it will be a Democratic administration's problem.

Meanwhile, we will provide you with all the lip service you can handle.

And, considering Alexander Acosta is the current Secretary of Labor, his presence in this administration suggests some dark motives indeed for what's to become of the tortured children.

Using the same ugly methods used by the Catholic Church and a Reform Church used in the late 1800's and into the middle 1900's with the Native tribes.

That proved to be a total nightmare that is still having a lasting effect in the Native Communities.
