I sometimes visualize us---DU and all like-minded folk---as an energetic but disorganized throng

that virtually extends out of sight in all directions. We mill about, occasionally coalescing in small groups that offer the comfort of temporary informal structure, but somehow always knowing that such random associations are unsustainable; that "something else" is required. And, so, we wait. So far, Godot has not been sighted.

Permeating my vision of "us" is the shared feeling of "ripeness"---a sense that SOMETHING is about to happen that will significantly change how the rest of our days will be spent. We don't really want to acknowledge it, but this somehing could be either a deliverance or a disaster.

For it to be a deliverance, we need a leader who at least an overwhelming majority of us agrees IS a leader; someone who has "IT ". We need someone who will say "This is where we're going! Here's how we'll get there!" and to whom we will respond "Let's go!"

I see a handful of "possibles", but no sure bets. And, I hear some who will feel obligated to whine and pout if someone other than their favorite is found to have "it". For the good of everyone, I hope these people can find the it in themselves to---no other way to say it---sit down and shut up.

"If you can't lead and you won't follow, get out of the way."

I think this is a very good way to characterize us, my dear Atticus! CaliforniaPeggy Apr 2019 #1

I don't have any sure bets either, even though I love Mayor Pete.

I hope the coming election in 2020 will bring joy to all of us here!
