Tougher wording in"heartbeat" bill heads to Ohio House panel

Cross posted in Ohio group.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A committee vote is scheduled in the Republican-led Ohio House on legislation to ban abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected after the bill was altered to make heartbeat detection as easy as technologically possible.

Abortion rights groups have decried the latest version of the so-called "heartbeat bill" as effectively outlawing a procedure accessible to women under the U.S. Constitution.

The measure's backers seek to challenge the legal standard of viability established in the landmark 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision.

The House Health Committee planned a vote Tuesday on its version of the bill, which makes clear that transvaginal ultrasound isn't exempted from use in detecting a heartbeat. That's changed from the version the Ohio Senate approved last month.

Republican Gov. Mike DeWine has said he'd sign a heartbeat bill.

at first heartbeat age. And since we don't have a right to healthcare in this country, it also stands to reason that a fetus has no right to life.

autonomy the second she becomes pregnant. Disgusting.

In their minds women aren't even people.

Then again, once the fetus has left the woman's body via birth, it is also on its own as far as they are concerned.

legalized violation of a woman's body, as far as I'm concerned.

And the thought of all those old goats down in the state house sitting in a room trying to dream up every way they possibly can of humiliating a woman who needs an abortion absolutely sickens me. They're probably getting off on it, too.
