He just bet it all - and won - now he's at
$42,000+ and we're less than half way through Double Jeopardy

He just broke the one day record
https://www.thewrap.com/jeopardy-james-holzhauer-breaks-single-day-cash-winnings-record/
James Holzhauer, a 34-year-old professional sports gambler from Las Vegas, Nev., just annihilated the Jeopardy! single-day cash winnings record.
Holzhauer won $110,914 on Tuesday. The previous single-game record of $77,000 was set by Roger Craig on September 19, 2010.
In addition to being a huge chunk of change, Holzhauers $110,914 take has a special numerical significance: His daughter was born November 9, 2014 (11/09/14).
His four day total is almost a quarter million
$110,914
Hehehehehe
At least if this is ALex's last season it will be one to remember - although he could miss the doubles tomorrow and crash out

(62,423 posts)and then it occurs to me - he will beat himself.
He will bet it all a couple of times in one game, give a wrong answer and wipe himself out. He will go out in a blaze of glory though.
Seems that we have seen that happen a few times.

I think they're crazy. I'm a very social person, I love being around people, I play well with others and I never run with scissors.

malaise
(269,054 posts)those Jeopardy producers will find a category to test him and another sharp contestant.
As we say 'dawg nyam im suppa' (dog eat his supper) if he bets big and gets it wrong or can't find the double - that said he is very good.
Totally Tunsie
(10,885 posts)and he doesn't seem to have any obnoxious tendencies as some of the other big Jeopardy! champs do. I like him and hope he continues for quite a while. His betting strategy is fun too...didn't "get" his Final J wager tonight until reading here of his daughter's birthday. So far, it's working for him.
malaise
(269,054 posts)At this rate he has a chance to break every record but with his approach to betting, all it will take to lose is one wrong answer on the double.

Alex opens with is it too soon to compare him with Ken Jennings - well he's averaged twice as much as Ken

(269,054 posts)He's $298,000+ now after five days.
Thing is he lost everything on the first round double and only selected one of the two in DJ.
The female contestant who was giving him a run for his money got her double wrong and the game was over. $54,000+ today. He really is good but luck is also on his side today.

malaise
(269,054 posts)at the beginning to tonight's program, he has earned this money in half the time as the previous best players. That said James made quite a few mistakes tonight, but he did not gamble wildly tonight so he still won.
oasis
(49,389 posts)James is anything but reckless - that was a hell of a win tonight.
Made a few errors and never attempted to gamble everything.
Well over $300,000 now.
