General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI'm becoming politically exhausted. Trump's "witch hunt" has transformed into an attempted coup
and the Attorney General of the United States says, with no evidence, that Trump's campaign was spied upon by the government. Now they want an investigation into the origins (oranges) of the Mueller investigation.
Steve Mnuchin says Trump's tax returns won't be released and people are dropping like flies at DHS.
Just when you think the crazy coming out of the White House can't get any worse, they double down. Where and how does it end?

(25,252 posts)He doesn't play 3 dimensional chess. He deals with this country like he does playing golf. He cheats. He lies. He steals. And does he care that people call him a cheat or liar. Is he embarrassed of that? No. It just gives him that much more approval to do it - because people think he'll do it anyway. It's just Trump being Trump. It's just like how parents, grandparents, friends and family spoil a child. The more the child's ego is fed with - isn't he cute - the child will just push the envelope to be even more cute - until you have a spoiled child on your hands.
Is he worried that he'll be removed from office kicking and screaming. I think not. After all - people still play golf with him knowing that he cheats and lies. Famous people. Famous golfers. This just feeds his ego more and causes him to push the envelope to even get away with more cheating and lying. He knows that if they know he cheats and lies and they still want to play golf with him - well - they expect me to do it. So I might as well give them what they expect.
And governing this country. Every time he's made fun of. Every time he's called a cheater and a liar. Every time somebody writes a book about how bad he is; how delusional he is; how evil he is - it just feeds his ego and causes him to push the envelope to further flaunt the rules/laws and norms. Why? Because they expect it of me and I might as well give them what they expect.
We've created a monster. We made Trump - Trump.
We feed that energy that he displays at his campaign appearances. We feed his ego. And with each passing day in his administration - that energy just ramps up. God knows where it will stop?

(7,947 posts)I hate to say that. But they just are shameless. That's their super-power. The Attorney General-- above the FBI-- is merrily saying that the FBI "may" be part of a coup, that they have to be investigated (by whom??).
When are some FBI agents going to stand up and say, "Stop slandering us!" You'd think when Trump fired McCabe within days of his retirement, deliberately depriving him of a well-earned pension, the other agents would have at least started a petition. I don't get any of this. It's like nothing known in human nature works anymore.

(15,115 posts)It is truly exhausting to pay attention to all of this.
I've been thinking about this spying on the Trump campaign, and it's actually very possible that the intelligence agencies did start to look at what was going on because they had information that indicated that Trump was compromised.
I don't know where it ends. Hopefully not under a mushroom cloud, although our country is ripe for a massive attack with the way ass face is demolishing our protective institutions.
Drat! It's not cocktail time yet.
Hang in there.

(1,193 posts)I'm 81 with 10 grandchildren who will have to continue fighting this evil with courage and persistence. Fortunately the Democratic Party is presenting us with a wealth of exceptional presidential candidates. The Republicans will do whatever they can to destroy our democracy. We will NOT let them get away with this.
We can win this fight if we work together. My crystal ball is murky, but I do know from experience that we can overcome evil with good. Obama's slogan of "Yes we can" still works for me.

(10,830 posts)Create enough chaos and confusion that people tune out as the grifters grab more and more, eventually hollowing out the entire government. It's no different than the 'Burn the House Down, Baby' design that Steve Bannon touted. Burn it all down then rebuild in the grifters' image.
As far as it ending? It looks as if that will be up to us, the voters. A clear, undeniable repudiation at the ballot box.

For Trump, as always, this is only about him and whether he "wins." What a fantastic win for a reality tv show star, to become not only POTUS but Generallissimo of the USA.
I am exhausted as well, and I know it is by design. Trump and his allies design it that way -- they churn and churn until our heads spin and we can't keep up.
