Actor Nathan Lane compares Paul Ryan to Wicked Witch of the West
Actor Nathan Lane, star of Broadway’s “The Producers” and the film “The Birdcage” took a few sardonic jabs at the Romney campaign on Friday night at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama on Friday night, according to Huffington Post.
At the event, which was held at a supporter’s residence in the Hamptons and featured Lane alongside Vice President Joe Biden, Lane scored laughs by mocking Mitt Romney’s inconsistency and by comparing vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to the Wicked Witch of the West from “The Wizard of Oz.”
Lane’s turn at the mic saw him cracking jokes about both men on the Republican ticket. He pointed out that Romney is fluent in French, which will be useful when he tries to “flip-flop in two languages.” He urged the assembled guests to ransack the house’s medicine cabinets before they leave, which is also known, he said, as “the Republicans’ plan to save Medicare.”
Medicare brought the Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor to the vice presidential nominee and his plan to use a voucher system to reorganize the program. “I think his exact words to the Medicare program were, ‘I’ll fix you, my pretty!’ as he rode off on his broom.”
