know of Trump's and his minions guilt - and they are trying to protect him. They know that he has lied and obstructed justice and was involved with conspiring with the Russians and they are willing to circle the wagons for him and protect him. That just blows my mind.
What are their reasons? Do they not have integrity and do they not care about the rule of law and our Democracy?
I just don't get it? What is their end game here? What do they gain from this?

(7,620 posts)troubling thing for me is that no one seems to be doing anything about the interference of a foreign power in our election. It's Trump, Trump, Trump and not a word about the interference which was confirmed without a doubt in the Mueller report. Is this Congresses responsibility or the intelligence community's responsibility. If it falls on the AG then I suspect nothing will be done.

(25,251 posts)The pressure is on for Trump and the Repugs to do everything that they can to re-elect Trump. Regain the House. And maintain the Senate.
I believe that Trump realizes that if he is not re-elected - his ass will wind up in jail.
Congress is ham-stringed to do much to prevent interference with the 2020 elections. We might be able to get something through the House - but we're dead in the water in the Repug Senate.
So - bottom line - it will be up to us - the American People to make sure we turn out in massive numbers to vote in 2020. We can't let the Repugs suppress votes, cheat and steal votes and their reliance on foreign interference to maintain and improve their power base.
This is up to us folks!!!!!!!

(53,410 posts)The idea that people are only trying to protect Trump is baseless. They dont give a shit about him personally. They are protecting themselves.

(8,322 posts)Money from future book deals. They stopped an out-of-control president, or they were loyal Republicans. It can be spun either way.
What did Karl Rove gain? Better question: what did he never lose?

(940 posts)Then I watched a documentary on Russia and how Putin + a couple rich dudes basically control the country. This power class pulls all the levers of government and rigs the system to favor themselves. They also control the media, so they convince the population they are whats right for the country. Its very similar to whats happening here. The Russian boogeyman is the West. The West is trying to bring down Russia with democracy, homosexuality, etc.
The boogeyman so far in our country is the brown people "taking our jobs" and liberal ideas. No doubt the Mercers and Cambridge Analytica or whatever its called these days is still mining the hell out of the Internet and social media. They know what message to feed Trump and his circle of power. To these people there is no limit to the amount of money and power is acceptable. They want their children to assume power after they are gone, and continue the cycle.
Then there is the toadie class, which enables the upper power players. They want to be in the inner circle and will do whatever they are told to do. If/when they figure out they'll never be included, there are 10 more behind them that will stand up and fill the role.
